This is absolutely beautiful
We continuously listen to our volunteers and what volunteering with baby remembrance photography may feel like. Some of the common misconceptions include:
1. You have to be a professional photographer: no - we highly welcome talented amateurs as long as they know their camera and its functions well.
2. Session visits are always sad and distressing: session visits can be inherently sad and distressing, as they often involve deeply emotional moments. However, they are equally beautiful, rewarding, and, for the most part, a special experience for both the families and the photographers. There is always a lot of love in the room, and at times, laughter and smiles.
3. Session visits are a “frightening” experience: although volunteering with baby remembrance photography can evoke feelings of fear or nervousness, especially when handling challenging situations or when in unfamiliar environments, the fear of a photography session is much worse than doing one. Your first session may feel tense, but our volunteers very often say that these are not as nerve-racking as they first thought.
4. The volunteers are not provided with comprehensive training: we provide full, ongoing training and can offer the possibility of shadowing an experienced volunteer on your first session.
5. There is no ongoing support: all our volunteers receive support from both team members and other Remember My Baby volunteers. We have active ‘peer-to-peer’ groups where questions and concerns can be addressed promptly. We also regularly offer drop-ins where volunteers can discuss any challenges and share feedback.
