✨ Happy Retirement Karen ✨

As we reach the end of June, we are saying a very special thank you to Karen, who is retiring after an incredible 43 years with J Clean.

Karen has been part of J Clean since 1982 and has seen the business grow, change and pass through generations.

One of our favourite memories is Karen still cleaning while around 7½ months pregnant with Adele, our now Director. She was underneath a big meeting table, on her hands and knees, when J Clean’s founder, Jean Govier, looked at her and said:

“Karen… I think it’s time you went on maternity!” 🤣🤰✨

Fast forward over 40 years, and Adele is now Director, with many of those cleaning skills having been passed down through the generations.

We’ve received some truly wonderful messages from clients, colleagues and friends over the past few days, all sharing just how much Karen has meant to them. They have been incredibly special to read.

Karen, thank you for your loyalty, dedication, kindness and hard work over the last 43 years. You have helped shape J Clean into the company it is today, and your contribution will always be part of our story.

From everyone at J Clean, thank you for everything you’ve done. We know I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say we wish you every happiness in this next chapter.

Behind every grand opening is a huge team of contractors, trades and professionals pulling everything together. 💪🏽

Last week, our team were proud to support the preparation of the brand-new leisure centre in Leighton Buzzard ahead of its opening.

From fitness studios and changing facilities to reception areas, corridors and communal spaces, our role was to help ensure the building was clean, presentable and ready to welcome its very first visitors.

It really is an incredible facility, and it was a privilege to play a small part in preparing such a fantastic community space.

A huge thank you to our team for their hard work, attention to detail and commitment throughout the project. 💚

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this amazing new leisure centre to life.

For a lot of bright young people, the question isn't whether they're capable of university. It's whether their family can afford to send them.

The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners has just launched something to change that. The Breaking Barriers Bursary offers £5,000 a year, for up to three years, to a young person whose parent or guardian works anywhere in the UK cleaning industry.

It's open to 18–25 year-olds starting university this autumn - any degree subject, any employer. Applicants are assessed on need, endeavour and overall performance, alongside a short personal statement.

This is the kind of practical investment our sector should be proud of. It sits naturally alongside CSSA's CleanStart initiative, which is changing how young people see careers in cleaning - work that recently reached a national audience on BBC's The One Show. CleanStart opens eyes to the opportunity; the bursary helps remove a financial barrier that can stand in the way of it.

If someone in your team has a son, daughter or dependant heading to university this year, this could be for them. Please share it widely - the further it travels, the more it can do.
