♻️ How Much Recycling Actually Goes to Landfill?

With sustainability firmly in focus, recycling in the UK is improving and that’s good news.

Thanks to initiatives like the Government’s Circular Economy Package, the UK is aiming to recycle 65% of all waste by 2035, but what really happens to waste that isn’t recycled?

Here’s the reality ⬇️
🔹 Some waste is sent overseas for recycling, strictly regulated, and only where it will genuinely be recycled
🔹 Some goes to energy-from-waste incinerators, reducing landfill use and generating energy
🔹 Just 17% of the UK’s plastic waste ends up in landfill, and much of that comes from industry, not households

So how can we all help improve those figures?

✅ Educate yourself on local recycling rules (they vary more than you think)
✅ Sort waste correctly to avoid contamination
✅ Rinse food packaging because contamination is one of the biggest recycling blockers
✅ Work with the right waste partners

At hubba, we carry out detailed waste management audits to show you where your waste actually goes and how to reduce your environmental impact.

We believe real sustainability comes from education, transparency, and innovation.

🌍 Small changes. Better systems. Bigger impact.

One of our favourite parts of what we do is heading into schools to talk about sustainability, recycling, and how small actions can create BIG change.

These workshops give students a real understanding of what happens to our waste, what’s happening to the world around them, and how they can be part of the solution 💚

Recently, Debbie and Paul visited Orchard House School to deliver a practical and interactive waste workshop.

We think the feedback from the students says it all:

“It was really lovely, I got to learn about what happens to our waste after."

"It was very interesting, and I learned a lot."

"I learned about the 5 R's, which I didn't know before."

"Now I can make sure my class is recycling and separating their waste right!"

"I can't believe that lake is the size of the waste that this country makes."

Moments like these remind us why education is such a powerful tool for change 🌎

Do you know what the 5 R’s are? Let us know in the comments!

🌍 From Court to Collection: Closing the Loop on Tennis Waste 🎾

At the ATP Lexus Glasgow Challenger, the hubba x Dunlop Tennis partnership put sustainability into action. Together, we collected used tennis strings that would have ended up in landfill, giving them new life through this groundbreaking initiative powered by hubba x circularstring x Dunlop.

All string collected is a step toward a more sustainable future for tennis. This collaboration shows what's possible when innovation meets environmental responsibility. 🎾

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a real impact. Together, we're proving that high-performance sport and care for the planet go hand in hand.

At hubba, we believe sustainability isn’t a buzzword. It’s action!

We’re on a mission to build a circular economy where every material has value and nothing useful goes to waste.

From transforming everyday business waste into new, purposeful products to leading collaborative initiatives that rethink how industries manage resources, we’re committed to making a real environmental impact.

What We’re Doing:
🔹 circularball: complete tennis/padel ball recycling with full traceability proving that even sports materials can be repurposed.
🔹 circularplastic: turning plastics into premium, reusable products and giving discarded materials a fresh life.
🔹 circularstring: innovating sustainable sportswear from used racket strings, blending purpose with performance.
🔹 circulargrounds: transforming spent coffee grounds into eco-friendly materials, showing waste can be a resource.

We’re always exploring new collaborations because when passionate businesses and innovators unite, waste becomes opportunity.

Let’s build a cleaner, greener future together 💪🏻♻️

As we approach the end of 2025, we're grateful to look back on a fantastic year filled with growth, innovation, and meaningful impact.

We saw our groundbreaking initiatives soar – CircularBall (transforming old tennis and padel balls into new sports services, etc.) and CircularString (transforming used racket strings into premium sportswear), alongside many more circular economy solutions across the UK.

We completed our exciting rebrand and launched our new website, worked alongside incredible partners, served fantastic clients, and most importantly – saved tonnes of waste from being landfilled or incinerated across the country.

We can't wait to head into 2026 and make an even greater impact on the lives of our clients and the planet 🌎

Until then, let's raise our glasses to staying true to our mission and making a difference 🥂

Are you salivating thinking about your Christmas lunch already?

This season is full of delicious food, but it's also a time when food waste can really pile up.

As we meet family and friends over the festive period, let's be mindful of how much we waste and take simple steps to reduce it. ✨

Here are 5 easy ways you can enjoy a more sustainable Christmas:

1. Avoid overbuying ingredients by planning meals and snacks. Estimate portions based on your guests, and don’t forget to check what you already have in the fridge.

2. Leftover turkey? Make a tasty soup or casserole. Repurpose those veggies into a hearty stew. Get creative with your leftovers and reduce waste!

3. If you do have food scraps, composting is a great way to reduce waste while enriching your garden soil. Check with your local council to see if they offer food waste collection services.

4. If you have extra food that you can’t use, consider donating it to local charities or food banks. Many will accept unopened, non-perishable items.

5. Say no to plastic packaging where possible. Use reusable containers for leftovers and try to shop with sustainability in mind.

We can all enjoy a delicious, sustainable, and waste-free Christmas with a bit of planning. Cheers to that!
