Project Update – Portavadie Spa & Leisure

We’re approaching completion of specialist roofing works at Portavadie Spa & Leisure, following storm-related damage caused by Storm Éowyn.

Our scope has involved targeted repairs to the existing EPDM roofing system, addressing areas impacted by high winds and ensuring the building is fully reinstated to a weather-tight condition.

Working within a live leisure environment, the programme has been carefully managed to minimise disruption while maintaining a high standard of workmanship throughout.

Final elements are now being completed, with project close-out imminent.

Emergency RAAC Roof Works – Critical Infrastructure

Fragile RAAC roof structure requiring an urgent temporary waterproofing solution to prevent further deterioration while the permanent structural design is finalised.

Due to the fragile nature of the roof the works required several specialist access and protection measures including:

• Internal scaffolding crash deck supports

• Safety netting installation

• Easi-Dec roof walk system to safely distribute loads across the RAAC deck

• MEWPs for controlled access

With protection measures in place the team are installing a Liquid Roofing Systems rapid roof solution, creating a temporary waterproof barrier while the carbon fibre beam strengthening design is completed.

As the structure sits within a sensitive rural location, the team also has to carry out environmental checks throughout the works to ensure no protected wildlife (including bats) are present before proceeding.

Another solid effort from the team helping keep critical infrastructure operational.

Our team has been on site delivering high-resolution drone surveys alongside detailed inspections targeting cut edge corrosion and external envelope condition. The aerial data gives the client clear visibility of progress, access constraints and priority defect areas without disrupting ongoing operations.

Working over active plant and complex logistics always demands careful planning, but that’s where experience shows. Safe access, accurate data capture and clear reporting so the client can make informed decisions fast.

Confined Space Cleaning – Water Tank Jetting Works

Our specialist team carried out confined space cleaning on two large, empty water tanks — safely and efficiently using our high-pressure jetting systems.

Our operatives are fully certified for confined space entry, using continuous atmospheric monitoring, full rescue cover, and high-performance jetting units to ensure every surface is left spotless and contamination-free.

Royal Alexandra Hospital – Drone Condition Survey

Our inspection division recently carried out a comprehensive drone condition survey at the Royal Alexandra Hospital as part of their ongoing estates maintenance programme.

Using CAA-authorised UAV platforms, the survey captured high-resolution data across the roof and external building fabric — enabling precise identification of maintenance requirements without the need for scaffold or intrusive access.

All flights were coordinated with hospital operations and helicopter aviation control to ensure full air-safety compliance and zero disruption to services.

The project utilised our cloud-based survey software, allowing clients to view and interact with defect data overlaid directly onto Google Earth. This system transforms large-scale asset management — helping estates teams visualise, prioritise, and manage maintenance with clarity.

Follow-on works are then delivered by our rope access specialists, providing a seamless transition from survey to make-safe repair, reducing downtime and overall project cost.

Project Completion – Bught Stadium, Inverness

Balmore Group Scotland have completed the latest phase of works at the historic Bught Stadium, the recognised home of shinty in Scotland and the host of the annual Camanachd Cup Final.

Our works covered two key elements:

The stadium stand was fully stripped back and refurbished, then re-clad with new black and white Sinusoidal profile sheets, delivering a durable upgrade while retaining the traditional identity of the stand.

Alongside this, a completely new-build structure was delivered using Greencoat steel in a traditional zinc finish.

Greencoat offers the appearance and strength of zinc with modern sustainable performance. A key advantage is that it can be fabricated and cut to size directly on site, allowing for precise installation, faster build times, and reduced material waste. Combined with its high recycled content and bio-based coating, Greencoat provides both environmental and practical benefits — lowering lifecycle costs while ensuring long-term resilience.

This project highlights the balance of heritage preservation and modern construction innovation – ensuring Bught Stadium remains a fitting stage for Scotland’s national sport for generations to come.

Our team has been carrying out high-level structural steel and bolted connection inspections at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow — a world-class live entertainment arena recognised across the globe.

The Hydro’s roof is supported by a rare 3-tier grid system, a complex lattice of interlinked steel levels that demands both specialist knowledge and precise inspection methods. Using MEWPs, our engineers were able to safely access each tier and deliver detailed reporting to ensure continued safety and compliance.
