Direct Shine

Not often I’ll share something like this but this was sent to me by a friend and did give me a little laugh 😆😆😆

Have a great weekend all 👌

Topping off a nice period Direct Shine closed the week off with the news it had secured the 5-star Fonab Castle and lodges resort to its regular cleaning rounds.

This type of job is exactly what we are after and adds to the Pitlochry/Dunkled area that sees us look after 9 different resorts and over 250 houses.

This is great for the company as we had doubts many years ago about moving into this region but it has proven the correct decision.

We have also added 3 new businesses in the Perth city centre and a further 46 new properties across the rounds this last month.

The signs are good for the company, complaints are low, staffing levels are full with a further applicant waiting in the wings already for the next job to emerge meaning growth is looking positive for 2027.

Direct Shine has also launched its new Ai debt management system to assist in the monitoring and collection of debts.

This is showing to be a game changer for the company as debt management was seriously hampering the company in the background but early signs are great and clients are responding well. (Many simply didn’t know cleans were happening due to incorrect contact details and that’s on us but with this system it’s ensuring this doesn’t happen or is picked up on within 2-3 cleans and letters sent)

I may add all the Ai systems we have introduced have led to zero job losses and are only assisting the staff and in turn helping provide a better more all rounds service to clients as we scale.

A nice period which has had its hardships (I won’t bore you with that) but all in all we are closing the year very strongly and are confident of a massive 2027.

Thanks to everyone for the support and helping us to keep the company going in hard times.

We’re incredibly proud to announce that Direct Shine are now official sponsors of St. Johnstone Football Club! 💙⚽️

As part of the partnership, Direct Shine will now take care of the club’s window cleaning, with a view to growing the relationship even further in the future.

Seeing Direct Shine’s name alongside a club like St. Johnstone is amazing. It’s a great reminder of just how far we’ve come as a company from our humble beginnings.

What started small has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of — and partnerships like this make all the hard work worthwhile.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and proud to be supporting our local club. 💙

Good Evening and just a quick post to advise Direct Shine will no longer be carrying out domestic roof tile cleaning jobs. (Solar panel cleaning will continue)

Over the years we have jumped in and out of it but it’s no longer viable for us to make the money required due to health and safety restrictions making us uncompetitive.

Thank you very much

Often you you will see companies moaning about the bad clients and the ones that don’t pay or are unreasonable but this post is about the top ones which Direct Shine have many of and also the importance of communication between the client and the company returning the favour.

Direct Shine are growing and we are growing at a reasonably fast speed in terms of new work ect…

But what that means is we need new staff and the newer staff need a chance to do the job and to make the mistakes all new staff members can and will make no matter how good the training is.

What we have seen is so encouraging and that’s when a client calls with an issue and want to cancel the cleans we explain the situation…

We have had this a number of times in the past few years and we used to just accept it but now we explain the situation and what we plan on doing to assist the new staff member (ie more training, dedicated manager support ect ect) and almost every one of them are so understanding to the situation.

Does it happen where certain staff just don’t get the job or what we need yes and there is no company that can be hard when we need to be to protect our company but we employ staff and we can’t be scared to do this due to the fear of the odd complaint or issues as they come to terms with the job.

It’s great to see clients being understanding to this as it would be so easy for us to just play it safe and take no one on or give no further jobs but that’s not our style and we love being a pro active local employer but to do this we need clients like we have.

So thank you for your support over the years and as a company we will continue doing what we do best cleaning the external of your properties and providing safe and quality jobs to the people in our service areas.

Have a great weekend 👌

Another successful visit to The High School of Dundee — a job we’ve proudly carried out for 8 consecutive years.

5-man team attended to ensure the site was cleaned in a single day to tie with the schools busy pre opening schedule.

Alot of planning goes into jobs of this size, and our team once again delivered a fantastic standard from start to finish.

Whilst this was being done our teams also carried out the residential window cleaning on over 200 properties, 2 driveways were pressure washed, a town centre jewellers had a full frontage steam clean and 3 properties had its gutters emptied.

This shows the capability of the company but also the pressure to keep feeding the company with continuous work 😬

A massive thank you to the team for another great effort and to The High School of Dundee for continuing to trust Direct Shine year after year. 🙌

My son James completing his last day of his summer job as a flyer dropper 👌

Due to his commitment and hard work this will lead to a Saturday job for us doing the same job of delivering flyers when needed.

He has done great alongside my nephew Cameron, both worked very hard for being only 13 and 15 years old.

Next summer James will be 14 but nearly 15 and will start to go into the vans and learning the practical side of the job, he is very happy to be working with us and we have loved having him start learning a bit more about the company, something we have chatted about the majority of his life.

Well done son and keep up the hard work 👌

It’s been a while since a little progress update from the company….

This week seen us another bit closer to our back office being one of the most advanced and forward thinking in the residential external cleaning industry.

I’d imagine there won’t be many at our size with an array of systems at our disposal as Direct Shine have and each one is needed to scale as we are and have, most certainly we should have had in place sometime ago but as the saying goes better late than never.

The latest one is an Ai debt management system to assist in debt management currently being designed to once again link in with our accounts systems and CRM system BigChange.

It’s become incredibly clear that we have not previously put the correct resources into debt management (ever tbh) but are now.

The systems being specifically designed for us take the human element away and will have us have a debt management system that automates 95% of the job with our teams there to put the icing on the cake and also to ensure it’s running smoothly.

Zero job losses but just tools to assist our office and help in giving the clients an accurate and quality all round service

I’m very excited by this latest area as this will improve cash flow and take the guess work away from the process.

The aim is to make Direct Shines admin side a smooth, powerful and forward thinking office which lets us not only remain financially competitive but also one that can run without me at the helm at all times, allowing for a more secure business for the staff and also my family.

The company have two new (ish) staff members who are working away and finding their feet nicely which takes time but we have teams in place that are highly experienced training them.

As a company we are specialising more and more on window cleaning and this is definitely our niche, it’s where the most jobs are coming in and all our council districts throughout Scotland are increasing at a steady pace.

Once the systems are in place we will focus our efforts towards growth and sales as this is an area we have had to hold off on in the last 12-18 months until we brought the office systems upto speed but once done we now have the systems, management teams and staff in place to double down on growth.

We are in a positive place just now and one that seemed so far away a year or two ago but with perseverance and hard work we are positioning ourselves in a nice position for the next phase.

As always none of this would be possible without the clients or staff so thank you all and have a great weekend 👌

Well it’s a positive period for the company which sees us return to full staffing levels…

Actually we are now slightly overstaffed but in the position that will now let us push for some growth and return to doing what we do best and that’s push the company forward.

I’ve been guilty in the past of hanging on to some too long and perhaps not recruiting quickly enough but that’s changed and we will not allow this to happen again.

It’s a fine line with the costs of hiring staff and it’s a dangerous game to have more than needed but I think we have struck the balance.

The injection of 3 new team members over the last 6-month has given us some freshness to everyone.

The team’s in are hungry to work, flexible, pushing for overtime and letting us want to push forward again and that we will.

The experienced teams are in the back doing what they do best and leading by example out there.

I do believe we got a bit stale within the company but there is definitely a new drive.

This happens from time to time as it’s impossible to constantly keep things on top but the key is without a doubt the right staff and I believe we have the balance.

Next we will get back to the drawing board for a marketing push and aim to fill the vans this year.

The back office in Heather, Romy and Carol are doing a great job with the new systems and I’m introducing a few more over the next 5-6 months which will streamline the company even further.

Direct Shine will and always will be a company that pushes forward, yes there is times I want to stop and rest then kid myself on we need to stabilise but in the end we are safer when we move forward and this will always be the motto within this company.

We have welcomed some great clients to the rounds recently and complaints are as low as I remember them to be so not only are the teams being productive, they are doing so with quality.

A recent attendance bonus introduced this year is working well and staff sickness is at an all time low.

All in all things are looking up for the company and long may it continue as it’s certainly now always been like that this last 12-18 months.

Have a great weekend to our clients and to all the staff 👌

Another anniversary passed recently and it wouldn’t be right to let it go without a little mention.

My cousin and Direct Shine director Scott’s 13th anniversary with the company. (Scott has the black hat and is a little slimmer haha)

Albeit he has been with us a little longer as before he joined us as a fresh faced 17 year old he had been working weekends with us from 15 so really it’s getting closer to 15 years which was the very beginning.

A close friend, family member and colleague Scott has been invaluable to the company over the years.

One of the hardest working lads in the company and has deserved everything he has got as the company has grown.

Working closely alongside Donald, Ross and Terry the lads have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders but deliver time and time again for the company as do all the teams.

Thank you Scott for the commitment, loyalty and hard work and here is to another 13 years ❤️
