🌞 HEATWAVE SAFETY ADVICE – Please Look After Yourself and Others 🌞
With the heatwave upon us, it's especially important to look out for our elderly, vulnerable, and those with health conditions. Extreme heat can be dangerous, even deadly — so please take a few simple steps to stay safe and help others too:
💧 Stay Hydrated
Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and very sugary drinks.
🏠 Keep Cool Indoors
Close curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day. Use fans, cool cloths, or a lukewarm shower to stay cool. If you have air conditioning, use it wisely.
🕶️ Avoid the Sun Between 11am – 3pm
Stay in the shade or indoors during peak heat hours. If you must go out, wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
🍽️ Eat Light
Cold meals like salads, fruit, and yogurt can help you stay cool and hydrated.
👵 Check On Others
Please check in on elderly relatives, neighbours, or anyone who might be struggling — a quick call or knock on the door could save a life.
🚨 Know the Warning Signs of Heatstroke
Look out for dizziness, headache, confusion, excessive sweating or hot dry skin, and nausea. If someone shows these signs, seek medical help immediately and try to cool them down.
Let’s take care of each other. A small act of kindness can go a long way 💛
