Do you want to have a go at that WASP NEST yourself?
What, are you crazy!?
You should not deal with a wasp nest at height yourself using amateur products because doing so carries a severe risk of falling from ladders, getting attacked by the colony, and failing to reach the nest properly.
‘Amateur use’ products are massively restricted in chemical strength compared to professional treatments and will always fail if the nest is hidden deep within wall cavities or roof spaces.

Wow, take a look at this German Cockroach (Blattella germanica). This pest species is thankfully rare in our local area.
German cockroaches can enter a house by hitchhiking inside items, moving through shared walls, or crawling out of utility pipes. They do not typically crawl in from the outside areas bordering a property.
Getting rid of German cockroaches requires a multi-step approach using pest control techniques, deep cleaning, and sealing entry points, sometimes including drainage.
This applies to your house, and any connected property i.e., the neighbours. Terrace’s are therefore particularly notorious for cockroach issues, due to the interconnected nature and condition of the buildings.

Yes, we certainly do love our little market town of Otley.
And having lived, worked and even gone to school in Otley we kinda know our way around!
Local knowledge is highly useful in pest control because pests issues are created by specific environments, weather conditions, and local structural habits. Employing a national company utilising a general or theoretical ‘textbook’ approach often results in failed treatments or unnecessary chemical use.
At LANDGUARD we usually offer a cheaper and faster service too.

A typical WASP NEST in a typical area, situated in the void behind an air brick.
Wasps build nests in cavities because these spaces provide a dry, temperature-regulated, and highly protected environment that shields the colony from predators and harsh weather.
The gain control an effective insecticide must be applied at the point of ingress.
Unfortunately ‘amateur use’ products do not offer effective control.

Wow, the persistent weather has made ANT colonies go absolutely wild!
Ants, such as these ‘Black Garden’ variety, are more active in hot weather because they are cold-blooded (ectothermic) insects, meaning their body temperature and metabolism rise with the outside temperature. Increased heat speeds up their internal systems, making them energetic and driving them to aggressively forage for food and water to sustain their growing colonies.
That means they are more noticeable, and cause more problems, particularly when they find their way inside a property!
Ants are a beneficial species but in the wrong place can present a significant nuisance.

Fixing rodent ingress points in the summer is good practice as rodents remain active and breed rapidly during the warmer months. Critically, sealing these gaps also prevents them from establishing routes into your property before winter, and allows you to take advantage of better outdoor working conditions.

In mid-July, wasp nests are in a period of rapid growth, full-scale activity and suddenly become more noticeable. Hence why we are very busy!
Nests that began as small paper structures in the spring now house up a few thousand worker wasps and require navigating carefully.
Are you noticing lots of wasp activity?
Is the nest in an awkward position?

07/07/2026

Finding rodent droppings in your kitchen cupboard indicates an active pest infestation which poses several health hazards such as the transmission of Salmonella, E. coli, and Hantavirus through airborne dust, or contact, and signifies that the rats or mice are trying to access your food sources.
At this stage you must consider employing effective control, disposing of potentially affected food items, disinfecting work and floor areas and considering how ‘they’re getting in’ for a long-term solution.

If your bin bags have been ripped open the most likely culprit is the local wildlife. In the UK, common scavengers like rats, foxes, birds are attracted to leftover food waste.
To prevent this happening use more secure storage (i.e. the bin), and keep up with collections.
