Chris Scott exhibition - oil paintings of Oswestry -

Bio - Chris Scott
Chris is a self-taught amateur painter who works in Oswestry and lives in Shrewsbury. His medium is oil paint and his style is perhaps best described as abstract realism. Thus far his work is studio-based; however he strives to move towards plein air painting i.e. outside on location.
The subjects for his works are predominantly landscape (particularly urban landscape) but also extend to portraiture and animals. One particular aspect of his work is using recycled materials to paint on, in particular porridge boxes of a certain well-known brand!
Chris has been painting for 25 Years.
In 2025 he took part in the Sky Arts series Landscape Artist of the Year.
We asked Chris if he wouldn't mind painting a picture for us to help celebrate Oswestry in Bloom, within a few weeks he had painted this entire collection of work to exhibit - We hope you are as delighted with them as we are.

Absolutely loved framing this fabulous painting by local artist John Shackell - it really needs to be seen in person - currently exhibited in our wonderful local art gallery Willow Gallery Oswestry - definitely worth a visit !

Recovery Truck (Commer Superpoise), Watercolour, airbrush and brush by John Shackell.

"A painting with a bit of history - Mid 1970’s in Gt. Malvern took photo of Commer recovery truck.

Mid 80’s had brief use of an airbrush and pump. Did background and front bumper. Then had to shelve it.

40 years later acquired my own airbrush and pump and in January’26 resumed and finished it.

‘Photorealistic’ but that was the intention. More about learning a technique and what you can do with it than anything else.

Postscript:- 3 days before completion saw the same model truck at a farm near Oswestry - first one since taking the original photo." - John
