This Honda CRV was presented to one of service centres in "limp-mode" with several error lights relating to DPF faults illuminated.

They carried out initial diagnostics to check if the unit was actually blocked... the onboard computer had logged over 60grams of soot and measured 12psi back pressure, which is high. They then confirmed the back pressure with a manual pressure check.

Using the patented Terraclean solution thy were able to clear the blockage on the vehicle which reduced the back pressure down to just 0.5psi and brought the vehicle out of limp-mode, then they carried out a road test and allowed the vehicle to carry out a successful regeneration👍.

The vehicle is now out of limp mode, all lights extinguished and running as it should be.

WHY DO DPF FILTERS BLOCK?

1-DRIVING STYLE- Short journeys & stop/start driving are not good for the DPF system. The vehicle needs a long drive at constant speed to activate the regeneration process we suggest 20-30 mins of motorway driving at around 3000 rpm is ideal.

2-POOR MAINTENANCE- Poor servicing & lack of maintenance have an effect on your engines cleanliness, a dirty engine produces dirty emissions and dirty emissions clog your DPF Filter.

3-POOR FUEL QUALITY- Poor quality, contaminated or old fuel produce contaminants that effect your engines efficiency. Using premium fuels and additives can help to prevent your DPF from blocking.

4-COMPONENT FAILURE- Another component failing can prevent your vehicle from carrying out its regenerations, or alternatively, cause the DPF to constantly regenerate and can damage your DPF beyond repair.

5-FUEL LEVEL- To carry out its own regenerations your vehicle must have at least a 1/4 tank of diesel.

It's been an extremely busy couple of weeks in the network for fixing . This is not one we did ourselves but one of our fellow dealers in the network resolved this for the owner.

At the very top of the problem list is the Nissan Qashqai.

This one presented with a blocked unit and the owner had a competitive quote to "clean it". When he asked for a price to clean his local TerraClean dealer they asked if the cleaning company had investigated and identified the problem. ............. "It's blocked was the owners answer" and that is fair comment from the owner, but the company cleaning should have known better and explained the concept of DPF to him. Once explained he took it to our dealer, who diagnosed the problem - which is ALWAYS the key. Then he resolved the problem, allowed the unit to regenerate (self-clean).

If your car develops a problem, maybe you see the dreaded warning light - do not panic - simply talk to us - FIRST.

This Volvo came into one of the TerraClean Service Centres with a blocked DPF and in limp mode. Rather than simply cleaning, as we know other companies do, they carried out various checks on the vehicle to establish why the filter was blocked in the first place and discovered a faulty sensor which had been preventing the car from regenerating the filter.

After a clean and new sensor was fitted they cleared the faults stored in the vehicle memory and went for a run. After 5 mins of driving they established that the vehicle was now regenerating and all was well on their live data stream.

This is another example of getting to the root cause of the problem before throwing money away on unnecessary parts replacement.

The old Flexi piece on this Ford Focus DPF had rusted & was blowing meaning the car failed its MOT test. 😖😖

Normally to replace this part you have to buy a whole new DPF costing £££’s....

So instead, we have cut the old one out and then TiG Welded in a New 304 Stainless Steel Flexi piece, saving the customer £££’s 😁😁

And because it’s Stainless it’ll probably outlast the car 👍

The Government will continue its crackdown on diesel cars by introducing new stricter MOT rules for particulate filters designed to reduce harmful exhaust-pipe pollutants.

This BMW 1 Series has come in to us as a non runner due to the DPF in the exhaust being blocked solid leaving the exhaust gases unable to escape.

On this one, as it was so blocked, we put our patented DPF fluid in to the system & left it to soak over the weekend.

When we went back to the vehicle this morning it started straight up. 😁👍

We’ve now carried out a full DPF system clean, repaired the causes & results of a blocked DPF (EGR valve, DPF pressure sensor & relevant pipework replaced) & it’s now running like a dream.
