IT’S HOT OUTSIDE, SO NATURALLY WE’RE THINKING ABOUT LOG FIRES!

Nothing says “summer marketing” quite like sitting at your desk in August, choosing photographs of roaring fires and cosy cottages. But here we are.

Because while the weather right now might be all about open windows, cold drinks and FLIES (dear god, the flies), give it a few months and we’ll all be craving the complete opposite: Dark evenings. Big jumpers. A bottle of wine. A cosy cottage somewhere lovely with absolutely nowhere you need to be, and NO FLIES.

Which is lucky as we have some gorgeous holiday homes with open fires and wood burners, perfect for autumn weekends, winter escapes and Christmas breaks. The sort of places where you can come back from a blustery walk along the beach or through the countryside, light the fire, put your feet up and stay firmly planted there for the rest of the evening.

Which feels slightly ridiculous to say when it’s 25°C outside and we're considering working from the fridge because memopause and the sun aren't being kind to you.

A small reminder about how SELF-CATERING works:

It doesn’t actually require anyone to provide a welcome hamper, a mid-week clean or room service. In fact, it doesn’t require hampers, dog treats or individually wrapped toilet rolls either, but we like to add little extras where we can.

Can we always provide hampers? No.

Can we always supply travel cots, stair gates, 12 dog blankets, a full bag of BBQ charcoal or every extra item someone might need? Sadly not.

Can we guarantee your favourite tea, premium olive oil, the exact brand of oat milk you drink at home, a 9pm turndown service with a chocolate on the pillow, or Google the nearest EV charger on your behalf?

I’m afraid that’s where self-catering and five-star hotels begin to part company, and sadly our telepathic powers are still under development.

But… because our wonderful owners are incredibly generous, many of our properties do come with a whole host of thoughtful extras. Depending on the property, you might find: cleaning products, dishwasher and washing machine tablets, dog beds, dog crates, dog blankets, dog dressing gowns, human dressing gowns, electric fans, welcome hampers, milk in the fridge, beach equipment, push bikes for guests to use, condiments in the cupboards, individually wrapped kitchen roll and loo rolls, jars of dog treats, and even freshly baked bread or homemade scones waiting for you.

So if your dog prefers a different biscuit, the tea isn’t your usual brand, or you run out of loo roll after a few days, there will almost certainly be a village shop or supermarket nearby where you can pick up exactly what you like.

Anyway, we’re off to disappoint another Labrador with a chew instead of a biscuit.

Ever been to Latitude Festival in Suffolk? We just spent the weekend there (and still recovering now) but honestly, it’s one of the best family festivals we’ve been to.

Alongside an incredible music line-up, you’ll find comedy, theatre, literature, poetry, podcasts, dance, art installations, wellness sessions, family shows, woodland trails, lake swimming, delicious street food and loads of activities to keep children of all ages entertained.

This year we saw Lewis Capaldi, Teddy Swims, David Gray, Billy Ocean, Jack Dee, and so much more… and we still didn’t manage to fit everything in.
