St James - Spencer Residents' Association

St James - Spencer Residents' Association The aims and objectives of the Association will be:

1. To seek to improve conditions for the residents of the area.

2.

A campaigning association for people living, working in St James & Spencer areas of Northampton, England, to help and signpost them to get help with their concerns. To represent and to promote the interests of all the tenants and residents living in our area, with an ethos of personal responsibility. Further, to assist (through signposting and intervention) residents with their concerns.

3. To

work for improvements to our homes; to the Housing Service and other services we receive; and to the local environment including cleaner air, working to achieve a “greener” future with “green” technologies, where possible.

4. To work in partnership with other agencies to achieve our aims and to seek to engage local councillors and authority officers to work to the best advantage of the association and in turn the residents.

5. To work to support and encourage local business, in particular small businesses, which are the lifeblood of any community.

6. To encourage residents to take part in the democratic political process. As a means to achieving our aims, where possible and if appropriate, stand our own “independent” candidate in local elections, but to work in co-operation with, but not support, endorse or promote any one political party. The Association will promote any charitable aim to further the above objectives; and will foster a community spirit in order to advance education and to provide facilities for training and recreation, to further health and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress.

There will be a huge selection of various items outside the centre ready for a new home. This includes toys, books, games, household, storage etc.

We are NOT able to reserve items and request that a donation be put in the bucket should you wish to take anything.

As we are working hard to clear the centre today, items will be added to throughout the day. Please be advised staff will not be able to monitor our notifications during this time.

Thank you!

We are very sad to learn of the passing of local legend Olwyn Twistleton. Ollie was a great supporter of SJSRA and was our secretary for a number of years up until the outbreak of COVID but still came along to meetings once they restarted, even up unilt recently.

Ollie was a formidable character at meetings and many a councillor has been on the end of her polite but forthright searching questions. She cared about where she lived and wanted to make a difference and we will always remember her contributions and support with fondness and gratitude.

Many will remember Ollie on her regular morning walk to the Square to get her newspaper and groceries, and from the Thomas A Becket pub where she attended quiz nights.

St James has lost a dear friend and one of its characters. We will all miss you Olwyn, thank you for everything.

Our thoughts are with Doug, Amanda and all of Olwyn's family and friends.

Well wishers can leave a memory or make a donation in her memory here: https://olwyntwiselton.muchloved.com/

Do you know this cat?

"Could you please share? A neighbour has had a cat come into her home and and hasn't wanted to leave. Im hoping someone recognises it, as it doesnt want to go into a cat carrier to get to the vets to be scanned."

Meeting this evening.....

This is an invitation to a meeting about the future of Northampton.

The details are:
Date: Weds March 4th
Time: 5 - 6.30
Venue: The Doddridge Centre, St James Road.

The aim of the meeting is to discuss the local plan for West Northamptonshire that is being developed by WNC and will decide the future of Northampton for many years to come. The plan, which is for the whole of West Northants, is out for consultation, and we want to ensure that there is proper input from Northampton. At present the only council-organised consultation meeting for the town has already happened.

Among the key issues are:

What happens about meeting the huge housing needs in Northampton.
Whether the council gives the green light to ever more houses in multiple occupation.
Whether our green spaces get protected.
What happens about future industrial development in the town.
What happens about transport infrastructure - including walking and cycling routes.

The plan will last to 2043 - but the buildings produced during this period will last much longer!

It's a critical issue. And one that needs a speedy response. The Council will be agreeing it's plans towards late March, so we need to get a response in for Northampton.

If you know others who would like to come and have their say, then please pass on this invitation.

Cllr Bob Purser, who is the deputy leader of the Labour Group and a member of the planning policy committee will also be in attendance.

For planning purposes, it would be most helpful if you could respond. And, as ever, I'm more than happy to discuss.

With best wishes

Cllr Sally Keeble
