With the warm weather we’ve been having, it might seem like the perfect time to wash your car. However, washing it in direct sunlight can actually do more harm than good.

Here’s why:

💦 Water dries much faster, leaving behind water spots and mineral deposits.
🧼 Shampoo can dry onto the paint before you have a chance to rinse it off, causing streaks and residue.
🔥 Hot paintwork can make it much harder to wash safely, increasing the risk of swirl marks during drying.

Our advice:

✔️ Wash your vehicle early in the morning or later in the evening.
✔️ Park in the shade wherever possible.
✔️ Work one panel at a time if you have no choice but to wash in warmer conditions.
✔️ Dry the vehicle straight away using a quality microfibre drying towel.

Taking a little extra care during the summer months will help keep your paintwork looking its best for longer.

We've had quite a few customers recently tell us they've been told that a ceramic coating will improve their car's MPG.

So, is it true?

Technically... yes. A ceramic coating creates an incredibly smooth, slick surface that can slightly reduce friction as air flows over the vehicle. However, in the real world, the effect is so tiny that you're extremely unlikely to ever notice it or see any measurable difference in fuel economy.

That's why you'll never see us advertising ceramic coatings as a way to save fuel. We'd rather be honest with our customers than make claims that sound impressive but have little real-world benefit.

What ceramic coatings do offer is where they really shine:
✔ Easier cleaning with less dirt sticking to the paint.
✔ Outstanding gloss and depth of shine.
✔ Long-lasting protection against UV rays, bird droppings, road grime and the elements.
✔ Water beading and sheeting that helps keep your car looking cleaner for longer.

Could there be a microscopic aerodynamic benefit? Perhaps. Is it enough to buy a ceramic coating purely to improve MPG? No.

This stunning Alpine A110 visited us for our Total Protection Package, consisting of a single-stage machine polish, a 4-year ceramic coating, plus ceramic protection applied to the windscreen and wheel faces.

The paintwork was already in great condition when it arrived, with only a slight dullness in the white paint. Our polishing stage restored the clarity and gloss, bringing the finish back to life before locking it all in with long-lasting ceramic protection.

🚗 We're Hiring – Part-Time Detailer 🚗

Street Shine is looking for someone to join our team at our unit in Neyland.

The role will primarily involve:
✅ Machine polishing
✅ Ceramic coating application
✅ Occasional valeting work

What we're looking for:

- A genuine interest in cars
- An eye for detail and pride in your work
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
- A fast learner with a strong work ethic
- Previous detailing experience is highly desirable, but not essential
- Sales or customer service experience would be a bonus, including dealing with customers, enquiries, and phone calls
- Must be aged 18 or over
- Full UK driving licence required

Pay:
💷 Approximately £15–£20 per hour equivalent, paid on a flat-rate per job basis.

Hours:
📅 Part-time to begin with, with the potential to progress into a full-time position for the right person.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about cars and wants to develop their skills in paint correction, polishing, and ceramic coatings. Full training and support will be provided to the right candidate.

📍 Based at our unit in Neyland, Pembrokeshire.
