The Harbour Inn, Garlieston. Another great pub with a large open fire. With these large pub fires I opt for two layer soot protection. Makes for a super clean sweep ready for customers shortly after I finished.
Flue nice and clean. Lots of soot removed. Ready for the cold weather, dark evenings and a pint next to a warm open fire

Greetings from Up yer lum chimney sweep. I’m on a course this week starting 30th September for a few days. If you require a sweep it’ll be easier to text or Facebook messenger me You can still ring but I won’t have a chance to sit down with the diary until the weekend.

The lairds Inn, Creetown. Beautiful huge open fire. This needed a bit of extra care and I always add secondary sheeting as a sure soot capture. I wasn’t expecting the large nest which took some removing. CCTV is so important as the flue draw indicates clear but camera shows residual nest. Further work and camera confirms all clear. Roll on those steak and curry nights in front of this when it’s going. 😊

This was an interesting and worrying sweep today. Just outside Newton Stewart. Apparently the chimney had been swept a year ago. When i opened the soot access hatch there was 3-4 inch layer of soot/debris I broke through and removed. The soot level was up to and above the flue pipe on the register plate. This could present a fire risk. 2 hours of clearing, raking and a bin bag later indicates the chimney may have been swept but unlikely the debris was removed given the amount. This puts the poor customer at risk. Register plates need to be cleared. Try and use a chimney sweep who is a member of a recognised sweep organisation. They will be insured and will have a framework in place for recourse should issues arise. And it protects you the customer.

A good sweep makes the difference between a dangerous inefficient appliance and a safe stove ready for the cold weather. A sweep this week in Newton Stewart took out this much soot. But the draw is now great. The owner ready for the cold dark nights. And more importantly safe.

Any nest removal should have a CCTV review to make sure everything is has been removed. Nest clearance in Newton Stewart followed by CCTV to ensure one clear clean flue. No remnants all the way up and got once sunshine streaming at the top. All ready for Lighting. 👍

Thinking of starting up your fire? Weather is getting cold but are there any hidden dangers in your flue. Call to Elrig, no draw. I found that over summer birds had made residence since left and blocked the chimney with their nest. A bit of work to remove and CCTV view to ensure all debris gone. All ready for the colder weather.

It’s that time of year again. I think the lack of summer means fires and stones have been on much more. I’m in Stranraer and area on Tuesday 24th September. There will be more dates in future but in case anyone wanted to get in quick.

Call to a flue with poor draw in Sorbie. Just needed a good clean and the results speak for themselves. A huge difference.

Winter preparations well under way. Chances are it may get damp and cooler quicker this year. This was a nice job, tired worn bricks removed. Good clean of the flue and then replacement bricks and baffle. All ready for the autumn.
