After two wonderful years of tutoring, cleaning and dog walking, I have decided to return to the fabulous world of classroom madness! From September, I will be a Teaching Assistant, supporting a child in Reception. Thank you everyone for your support. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two years and it has given me the time I needed. A special thanks goes to the children and families I have tutored...they know why x

I am thoroughly enjoying tutoring the wonderful children and seeing how much they are improving. Three of the children are using an interactive whiteboard which makes teaching them so much easier. M has astounded me over the last few months. M has a wonderful attitude. she tries her best in every session and she has worked incredibly hard with her mum during their homeschooling. I am so pleased that certain areas of M's learning are falling into place and making more sense to her.

Life in lockdown is busy and productive in the Rennie Westbrook house. Joshua is managing his own workload and only occasionally asks me for help. However, year 7 geography is proving rather difficult! The Joe Wicks workouts seem to be completed by just me as Joshua rarely gets out of bed before 9am! He does have fun going out on his bike later in the day though. Rob continues to work through existing projects and start exciting new ones. Evie constantly follows me around the house and often appears in my video calls to say hello to the children I am tutoring. I am enjoying teaching a wide range of ages and subjects. I work with two delightful year one boys who haven't worked with me before. W is doing brilliantly with his spellings and F loves writing. He is writing different genres such as postcards, letters and stories which have great sentence construction and punctuation. I am still teaching fantastic year 3-6 children in maths, writing, reading or spellings. All of the children are wonderful at concentrating and working extremely hard during our video calls. They are making great progress and make my job so rewarding. I am also grateful to their parents for printing out the work ready for our lessons. It definitely is a group effort so once again, thank you for your support.

Obviously, the lockdown has forced me to make changes to my business. I can't walk any of my gorgeous dogs and I miss them lots. However, Evie is getting longer walks so she is happy. My Rose Hill friends will be shocked to know that I have started to use the world of technology...at a basic level! I am tutoring all of my wonderful children via video link. They have all been amazing and taken the changes in their stride. All of the children and their parents have helped me, remained patient and been supportive. I am incredibly lucky to work with so many fantastic families and I am extremely grateful. Thank you.

On my local dog walks this week, I have seen lots of my old colleagues to say hello to or have a quick gossip with. It has been a lovely treat. I am loving my extra dog walks and I am definitely hitting more than 10,000 steps each day. My six children, who I tutor, are making me incredibly proud with their attitude to learning and ability to improve week by week. E is managing to write more directly and hitting her Year 5 targets. We share our ideas first and that is helping E to say the sentences before we write them. J is learning and remembering his spellings. We play as many games as possible and J enjoys the competition...he usually wins! The other four children are progressing well with their maths. The examples of work are by M, who would happily work all day if I let her! She is building on her basic number skills and doing brilliantly in remembering what she has learned in previous weeks. The other examples are by H, who just needs a confidence boost as he is achieving all of the Year 6 targets. There is so much to remember, never mind understand in reasoning and problem solving questions.

After a lovely Christmas break, I am back at work with cleaning, dog walking and tutoring. My six children are amazing! S is working on her spellings and maths. She is a very able young lady, who has lots of basic skills, but she needs repetition and confidence building. We like drawing pictures to help to understand different concepts such as dividing. I am looking forward to the
next few weeks with my dog walking. B and R are being walked four times a week and L is being walked twice a week. My play visit to look after T is changing to a short walk and play time now that he is a grown up 7 month old cockapoo! Exciting times for my business. Thank you for your continuous support.

More of my evenings are now taken up with tutoring five children. I continue to work with J on his spellings and E on her writing. They are making excellent progress and their confidence is growing. I work with three other children on their maths work. It is great! There is a balance between different year groups and different needs. S completed reasoning and problem solving questions. He is an extremely able boy, who loves the challenges, but needs reminding to read the question properly and make relevant jottings.

After a week off for half term, Leila and I are back on our hour long, weekly walk. She is such a wonderful, happy dog who always greets me with kisses and a very waggy tail!! Leila has become a confident girl on our 1:1 walks. She walks by other dogs without a worry and knows that she will get a treat and encouragement for her wonderful behaviour (if only Evie would walk so well on her lead!) The only downside is leaving Leila...those gorgeous eyes which say, "Please stay with me Katie!"

I am thoroughly enjoying tutoring my three children! A and I have our last session this week as he has got his exam on Friday. He has grown in confidence and ability in reading comprehension. He is a delightful young man and is always lovely to work with. J has been learning how to spell words from the statutory spellings list through playing games. He remembered how to spell 14 out of 20 words correctly which is incredible! It is fairly easy knowing how to spell words each week, but remembering them after five weeks is fantastic. E is making terrific progress! We have used a picture to help us to write a range of sentences which cover the Year 5 writing targets such as modal verbs, relative clauses and brackets. E is editing her own work and wanting to improve the sentence construction or vocabulary. I love that E now says, "I know what I want to write." I think that is a kind way of telling me to keep quiet!!

This gorgeous cockapoo needs her forever home. Her lovely mummy is Evie's sister from a different litter, so she will have a wonderful temperament. If anyone knows someone who can offer her the love and care that she needs, please let me know. I do not want another dog!!! However, I would love to walk and play with her!

I have had another wonderful three tutoring sessions. 'A' is doing very well with his reading comprehension. It is extremely tricky and it tries to catch him out but he still works incredibly hard all of the time. 'E' has written the most amazing story based on the Escape Room she had designed during the holidays. Her setting description used excellent vocabulary. It is coming more naturally for her to include the Year 5 writing targets such as fronted adverbials and relative clauses. 'J' worked on his spellings for a whole hour!! The time flew by as we played lots of games. His favourite game was rolling the dice to see what activity we had to do. 'J' even asked if he could have an extra turn to show off his lovely bubble style writing. It has been an absolute pleasure working with these young people.
