The first studio was in Newton-le-Willows and then I had one on Liverpool after I moved to the Wirral. There's still lots going on though including teaching workshops, holding sewcials and retreats. I have just taken on a new fabulous studio called The Glassroom in Little Neston and c

an't wait to get going with that. So many stitchers have to use the dining room table as their sewing space and have the hassle of tidying it up every time they have a meal and have the ironing table out in the kitchen constantly. That's not ideal, as I'm aware from personal experience! Another reason some stitchers will want to use the studio club is because they just love being around other stitchers, so that they can talk to people who 'get' what they're on about completely. We all learn and inspire each other as we all have different likes and skills. I love all kinds of stitchy fun but mostly patchwork and quilting. I seem to find myself making many wall hangings at the moment, which is probably because in the studio, I like to make projects which people can look at and maybe be inspired by and to make it clearly a happy place for stitchy escapees. My projects can include many kinds of mixed media of hand stitching, applique, machine embroidery and all kinds of fabric, beads and threads. I consider myself more of a modern quilter in my style. I absolutely love pattern and colour. I'm big into fabric designers like Alison Glass and Zandra Rhodes but I also know many British pattern designers. It's a big stitchy world. I am passionate about helping us all to make the time to be creative; to lose the fear and let go of comparison. Some of us prefer to create with the help of a pattern. Others of us like to 'free-wheel' it and the rest of us like to do a bit of a mix of both. We all need to give ourselves permission to enjoy and create. You can indeed do all that at home but when you mix that joy of creating and add some 'sewcial' group fun into the mix, you can get a great community going, which will envelop you and help you feel happy and included in this crazy busy world we live in. I nearly talked myself out of recording this. Just exactly the same way as we sometimes do with quilts.

So many women quietly sit at their sewing machine and stop, feeling overwhelmed by a quilt they desperately want to make.
But their brains say things like:

Too difficult.
Too slow.
Too many mistakes.
Too far behind.

So I recorded a short calming meditation/mantra for quilters inside Patchwork Play. This is a snippet.

Not polished wellness stuff.
Just real encouragement for real women trying to keep creating through busy lives and wobbly confidence.

A reminder that you do not have to finish the whole quilt today.

Just the next seam.

These little “Meditations for Quilters” are now becoming part of the membership and honestly… I think they’re going to help more women than I first realised.

Earlier today I showed a mishap with my double wedding ring quilt. Dozy Di over here should've shown you what it is meant to look like. Because I woke up, here is the section as it's meant to be. It's a half of a quarter block.
I wanted to show people, as I feel being good at making mistakes is so key.

I'm pretty good at failing.

If we crumble at getting things wrong, we'd never make anything and that's a crying shame. Making things involves lots of mishaps. Tiny ones and big ones.

I'm excellent at cracking on regardless.
Sorting the error out and just moving right on, as smoothly as possible is a skill.
This post encourages all us failures on!

My business and leisure overlap all the time. My business is part of how I live my life, so work doesn't stop because I'm on hols.

Here I was last night, listening to the first of 4 webinars run by Female Entrepreneur Association called 'Ideas to income'. Last nights is available as a replay and the one tonight sees Carrie (based in south Manchester- which makes me feel even more connected to her business) focus on how to take your idea and turn it into something your audience will appreciate and want to be a part of. It doesn't happen overnight but progress starts today! I did it last year too and now I have a brand new membership site, a new website and I've generally adjusted my work tiime to allow me more freedom to come on hols like this one I'm on.

The women who show up live (8p.m U.K) get to feel the energy of all the other women being sparked into wanting to take action - that's powerful. We can do this. We need to do this to help our people.

The headphones are so cool as they're colourful, bluetooth and only cost £12.99 from a shop in Castle Douglas! I needed to buy them as both him indoors and I are in the same room here in the lodge and he doesn't need to hear all my stuff. When his sport is on, he wears some too - his are nowhere near as cool as mine though!
This scene is often how I sew but without the headphones, as I'll be in a different room to 'him indoors'.

Hiya… remember I said I was going to start sewing at 4pm yesterday?
Well… I tried.
But what actually happened didn't quite work out.
And if I’m honest, it’s far more like real life, than the neat little plan I had in my head.

I shared the full story inside Patchwork Play—because that’s where we talk about the truth of building a creative habit, not just the idea of it.
It’s where the real conversations happen, as people don't tend to want to read full stories on here. People often don't want to share them on here either.

Here's to 4p.m today.

I'm intentionally planning to implement. Sounds a bit like business speak doesn't it? Maybe that's off putting. But hey, maybe you're curious what I'm on about. Whatever it takes to get us thinking about doing what we enjoy.
It’s a new phrase to me but it just means intentionally planning to do something. Not leaving it to chance and then guess what, it never happens.
Nevermind the wash loads, the weeding, the bin cleaning??!! The scrolling. The helping everyone else to achieve their goals.

It's planning for you.

It's intentionally setting aside maybe just 1% of our day to make progress.
1% is around 15 minutes.

My time at 4p.m today will be doing more for someone else too though, as it's a wedding quilt for my daughter.
Therein lies a bit of the greatness of what we enjoy doing, hey? We all benefit.

Hiya… I was sat here this morning, stitching a few more sections of my daughter’s quilt…
…and it hit me how many women-led businesses are part of this one moment;

None of this just “appears”.
It exists because someone, somewhere, decided to give their idea a go.
And got a quite a bit of help along the way.

I know not everyone wants a business
But I do want to see more sewing in the world,
More creativity
More confidence
More connection
Because I’ve seen what it does for women, again and again.

I am thrilled to announce that I was selected for the Female Entrepreneur Association's April Creator Spotlight!

I see and hear this all the time…
You want to sew, but life gets in the way.
And suddenly it feels like a big thing again. The thought of getting your projecct back out and remember where you were up to, feels like it'll take way too much energy.

So I made something simple.
One small patch a day. That’s it.

No pressure. No catching up.
Just a way back into your rhythm.
