Everyone meet 6 year old Jack… This morning I interrupted his game time with his friends of which he turned off to allow me to service his mother’s stove. I asked him if he wanted to give me a hand & he jumped at the chance, though only if he could wear gloves as he didn’t want his hands to get dirty 😂 After telling me how old his mother is, what his Dad works as & things Jack enjoys doing himself, we got him kitted out with his one glove & he got stuck in, checking the seals around the flue intrigued to know the reasons behind why it needed fire cement. I love meeting kids like Jack on my travels who want to get stuck in & give me a hand… 🙌

Take note folks…

One issue I come across far too often is stoves that have been poorly serviced, with the wrong type or size of fire rope fitted.

A stove door seal isn’t just a piece of rope, it plays an important role in controlling the appliance’s air supply, ensuring efficient combustion, and helping the stove operate safely. Fitting the wrong profile, diameter, or material can prevent the door from sealing correctly, leading to poor performance and unnecessary wear.

Chimney sweeping and stove servicing are different tasks, and any replacement parts should be fitted in accordance with the appliance manufacturer’s instructions. Replacing fire rope isn’t simply a case of using whatever is available, it needs to be the correct specification for that particular stove.

If your stove has recently been serviced, it’s worth checking that the correct fire rope has been fitted and that the door seals properly. Attention to detail makes all the difference when it comes to the safe and efficient operation of your appliance.

One of the greatest rewards of this job isn’t sweeping chimney’s, it’s the people I meet along the way.

Over the years, many customers have become much more than names in a diary. They’ve become friends. I’ve shared countless cups of tea, plenty of laughs, and the occasional slice of homemade cake. Those moments remind me that this job is built on trust, kindness, and genuine relationships.

This photo is a perfect example. It’s not just about keeping chimneys safe, it’s about taking the time to connect with people who have welcomed me into their homes and, over time, into their lives.

To every customer who has supported Sweep Clearly Chimney Sweeping, offered a warm drink, shared a story, or recommended me to family and friends - thank you. Your loyalty and friendship mean more than you’ll ever know.

As I sit here with my early morning coffee, reflecting on life and just how lovely it’s been to switch off and recharge, I can honestly say this break has been exactly what I needed—not just for the business, but for my own mental wellbeing too.

It’s been refreshing not feeling like I have to live beside my phone waiting for the next enquiry, booking or message.

It’s funny how, when your mind finally slows down, you realise just how much the past year has actually asked of you. Losing loved ones far too soon, dealing with life’s unexpected challenges, and somehow still finding the energy every day to keep a business moving forward.

Behind every small business is someone juggling early morning starts, late night finishes, ordering stock, endless phone calls, enquiries, paperwork, planning routes, and trying to look after a growing customer base. We pour so much of ourselves into our businesses that we often push our own problems to one side, convincing ourselves we’ll deal with them later.

But “later” rarely comes.

That’s why taking time to recharge isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.

A rested mind makes better decisions. A recharged body works safer. And a refreshed business owner gives a better service to every customer.

Sometimes the very best thing you can do for your business is step away from it for a few days.

This break has reminded me that looking after yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Now it’s nearly time to get back at it… with a clear head, full batteries, hands that are almost back to their normal skin colour, and fingernails that are actually gleaming for a change! 😂

Thank you to everyone for your patience while I’ve been away. I genuinely appreciate every single one of you, and I can’t wait to get back doing what I love. ❤️

The importance of having a Qualified professional doing a camera inspection on your chimney prior to a new install be it a stove or gas fire... You know what condition the chimney is in for the install regulations, if chimney structure is in good enough condition to begin with, but most importantly I will always give you the honest & safest outcome. It's either a YES its safe to use, or NO its unsafe!! I will never leave you in limbo with Stove installers reaching out to me for a second opinion after you where told that its just a PINHOLE 🙈

I know my lengthy waiting times can be a pain in the rear, I also know that you can get the job done sooner but has it been done properly?? 🤔Unfortunately this one wasn't & more concerning is that so many other defaults where missed!!

Proof… That chimney fires DO NOT clean or clear your chimney of soot deposits. The only thing that chimney fires do is weaken the structure of your chimney resulting in cracks of the ceramic flue or flue liner!! Unfortunately this client had an awful experience when her chimney went on fire resulting in a stressful 10 minutes before getting it under control… Thankfully no damage was done & she can continue using the fire without a hefty bill…

Staying on top of your yearly sweep maintenance is crucial folks… 🔥 🙌
