🚨 THIS IS WHY WE DON’T JUST “SWEEP AND GO” 🚨
🔥 A missing blanking plate is not a small issue — it’s a serious safety concern.

This photo shows the inside of a log burner where the rear blanking plate is missing.

Now here’s the worrying bit…

This wasn’t obvious from the outside.
It was only found because, as part of our process, we strip the stove down properly, remove internal components, and check for hidden damage, missing parts, poor seals, and safety concerns.

A quick sweep through the appliance might have removed soot from the flue…
…but it could easily have missed this completely. 😳

⚠️ Why does this matter?

A blanking plate is there to safely seal off an unused flue outlet. If it’s missing, damaged, badly fitted, or not sealed correctly, it can potentially lead to:

🔥 Smoke and fumes escaping where they shouldn’t
🔥 Poor appliance performance
🔥 Dangerous gases entering the room
🔥 Increased carbon monoxide risk
🔥 Heat and soot damage inside the appliance

Let’s clear this one up… because it catches a lot of stove owners out 👇

To keep your woodburner, chimney, flue liner or installation guarantee valid, you may need to have your appliance swept, checked and maintained regularly ✅

But here’s the important bit…

🚫 You usually do NOT have to use the original installation company for your ongoing sweeping or servicing.

Have you tested your Carbon Monoxide alarm today?

It takes seconds… but it could save lives. Carbon Monoxide is known as the silent killer because you can’t see it, smell it, or taste it — and it can be produced when fuels don’t burn correctly in log burners, open fires, stoves, boilers and other fuel-burning appliances.

✅ Press the test button
✅ Listen for the alarm
✅ Check the battery/fault light
✅ Make sure it can be heard clearly
✅ Check the date on the unit — CO alarms don’t last forever
✅ Remind a neighbour, parent, grandparent or vulnerable friend to test theirs too

🔥 Got a log burner or open fire?
A CO alarm is essential — but it is not a replacement for regular sweeping, servicing and maintenance. A blocked, restricted or poorly maintained chimney/flue can increase the risk of smoke, fumes and Carbon Monoxide entering your home.

⚠️ Watch out for possible CO warning signs:
Headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, tiredness, chest/stomach pain, confusion or collapse — especially if symptoms improve when you leave the property.

If your CO alarm sounds:
