🚨 THIS IS WHY WE DON’T JUST “SWEEP AND GO” 🚨
🔥 A missing blanking plate is not a small issue — it’s a serious safety concern.
This photo shows the inside of a log burner where the rear blanking plate is missing.
Now here’s the worrying bit…
This wasn’t obvious from the outside.
It was only found because, as part of our process, we strip the stove down properly, remove internal components, and check for hidden damage, missing parts, poor seals, and safety concerns.
A quick sweep through the appliance might have removed soot from the flue…
…but it could easily have missed this completely. 😳
⚠️ Why does this matter?
A blanking plate is there to safely seal off an unused flue outlet. If it’s missing, damaged, badly fitted, or not sealed correctly, it can potentially lead to:
🔥 Smoke and fumes escaping where they shouldn’t
🔥 Poor appliance performance
🔥 Dangerous gases entering the room
🔥 Increased carbon monoxide risk
🔥 Heat and soot damage inside the appliance
🔥 A stove that may be unsafe to use until repaired
And this is exactly why a proper chimney sweep should be more than just putting a brush up the chimney.
At SweepClear, we don’t believe in rushing in and rushing out.
We inspect the appliance, check the condition of key internal parts, and look for the things that could easily be missed.
✅ Baffle plates checked
✅ Fire bricks checked
✅ Rope seals checked
✅ Glass and door condition checked
✅ Flue outlet and blanking plates checked
✅ Stove internals checked for damage, distortion or missing parts
✅ Chimney swept professionally and cleanly
Because sometimes the most important part of the job is spotting the problem before it becomes dangerous.
🔥 If your stove hasn’t been properly inspected, not just swept, now is the time to get it checked.
