A look at annual urban solid waste production worldwide yields a frightening number: 1.4 billion tons ⚡. Most of this, about 800 million tons, ends up in landfills.

Each person in 🇪🇺 generates an average of almost 500 kilograms of municipal waste per capita each year.

Unlike waste disposal technologies, recycling allows preserving the material in order to reuse it in other products. To prepare waste for recycling, you can wash it to remove impurities like food residues.

It is advisable that you divide at home the total rubbish stream into groups – as follows:

1️⃣ Biodegradable waste
Biodegradable waste refers to any rubbish of natural origin. This includes vegetable & fruit leftovers, packaging, biopolymers, and wet paper waste.
You can deliver the waste to your back garden.

2️⃣ Glass packaging rubbish
Why it has to be done perfectly? Because the undesirable effects of our mixed wastes are still threatening us, leaching hazardous and toxic matters to our soil, producing dangerous gases.

3️⃣ Plastic packaging rubbish
This comprises an empty bag, container, box, and PET bottle; as long as it’s made of plastic. Plastic toys, margarine containers, oil bottles, and dirt plastic products are not perfect for recycling.
You can deliver plastic packaging waste to a separate collection container (normally yellow to indicate recycling).

4️⃣ Cardboard and paper waste
Why it has to be done perfectly? Because the undesirable effects of our mixed wastes are still threatening us, leaching hazardous and toxic matters to our soil, producing dangerous gases.

5️⃣ Metal waste
Metal waste includes every metal packaging and metal products like tin or cans. Any type of metal product that does not have contaminants is ideal for recycling.

Why it has to be done perfectly? Because the undesirable effects of our mixed wastes are still threatening us, leaching hazardous and toxic matters to our soil, producing dangerous gases.
It may look like extra time to spare. BUT! One of the most important things that you will take part in saving is our environment.
