❄️cold plug❄️❓
We have had a few of customers recently experiencing trouble getting their flue warm due to the cold mornings

The advice on the Hetas Website is

🔥 Leave your stove door open at least 30 minutes before lighting and when not in use.
🔥 Using the top down method of lighting a fire.(woodburner and open fires)
🔥 Starting with a firelighter can be effective way to warm the flue.

Please read this link for more information.

An unexpected issue for stove users during winter can be a cold plug in their flue. The HETAS team offers advice to help resolve this problem.

🔥 Safe Disposal of Ash 🔥
We encourage all our customers to stay safe.
🚒 Cambs fire brigade attended a house fire last week due to
⚠️unsafe disposal of hot ash from a woodburner ⚠️

Many of us use a metal bucket,
Burning embers from a fire can stay dormant for days if oxygen is introduced, ALWAYS put the bucket outside , even a small amount of glowing embers will give off poisonous Carbon Monoxide gases in a small and unventilated room, this gas is harmless outside
Safe disposal of ash is very important
Use a galvanised steel/ metal bucket with a metal lid on
Take your time to remove ashes to prevent spreading across the room, don’t rush
Store the ashes in the container in a designated area
away from the home, wooden decks, trees, preferably standing on metal, concrete or another non-combustible surface (DO NOT STORE IN THE HOME)
Few day later once cooled, then they can be disposed of
Check with local councils ( DO NOT PUT HOT ASH IN WHEELIE BIN🔥)
Cooled Woodstoves ash can also be used in other ways
In compost, wood ash is good for the ground
On icy surfaces
Protection from slugs and snails

🚨 Carbon Monoxide Awareness

2 of the most important alarms 🚨 to have in tip top condition this time of year,
Has your expiry date run out on your carbon monoxide device ❓

Do the batteries need changing in your smoke alarms❓

Symptoms of CO poisoning

2. Breathlessness
3. Nausea and / or Vomiting
4. Dizziness or Collapse
5. Chest and / or Stomach Pains

You might have seen some sensationalist headlines about stoves – let us clear the air.

Taking important research out of context for attention inhibits active efforts across our industry to continuously improve. We need clarity and focus.

Each source of emissions warrants its own solutions; comparing apples to oranges risk misinforming those that rely on solid fuel, downplaying innovation, and reducing public trust in evidence-based guidance.
