❗ It's official - HMRC's National Minimum Wage (NMW) Geographic Compliance Approach is coming to the Home Counties ❗
If your business operates in
Surrey
Kent
Essex
Hertfordshire
Buckinghamshire
Berkshire or
Sussex.
Then this one's for you. Paying above NMW does not automatically make you compliant. Many errors occur to those higher earners with salary sacrifice or those who work more than their contracted hours.
Here's how the NMW geographic campaign typically unfolds,
- HMRC writes to employers, flagging NMW risk areas
- Workers are contacted directly and invited to raise concerns
- A limited window is given to identify and correct issues plus repaying those affected over the previous 6 year period.
- Penalties and public naming are avoided in the self review is completed throughly and effectively.
The Home Counties are next to face the scrutiny of NMW and we expect the approach to keep spreading across the UK, this campaign has been hugely successful for NMW enforcement teams over the past 2 years.
The best time to find an NMW issue is before HMRC finds it for you.
So here's the question worth sitting with:
How confident are you that your organisation would pass an NMW compliance review today, remember this includes ALL of your employees, those paid by the hour and those who are salaried too.
