Filtration Soiling.
A little rough around the edges.
Filtration soiling, also known as draught marks or perimeter soiling refers to the dark, greyish, or black lines that appear on carpets along walls, under doors, or around pipes and fitted furniture such as wardrobes.
This occurs because a carpet can function like an air filter. As air passes through gaps beneath skirting boards or doors, the carpet captures fine airborne particles, including soot, dust, fireplace ash, and oily cooking residues. A carpet can also trap grease and oil from mechanisms like reclining furniture (as demonstrated in the photographs below).
Vacuuming often misses these areas altogether as they are tight along edges or in unseen places. Also, as this debris can contain grease and oil conventional vacuums will not be able to clean these areas effectively.
Professional cleaning utilising specialist detergents and a hot steam extraction process can really break down and lift those trapped particles. Also, they can address those heavier, built-up areas along edges and thresholds much more effectively than a regular vacuum.
Many people believe that once a carpet develops these dark lines that the only option is to replace them. This of course is not the only option and can prove very costly.
Having a professional company in to deal with filtration soiling issues will not only replenish a carpet adding health and vitality but will also save money overall.
