🐦 Today we installed a humane bird escape funnel system at a property where pigeons had gained access and were nesting within the roof space.

The funnel system allows the pigeons to leave safely while preventing them from re-entering the property.

To ensure the area is fully vacated, the activity is now being monitored using one of our wireless cameras over the next 2 weeks 👀

Once we are confident there are no pigeons remaining inside, we will return to carry out permanent proofing works to seal the access point and help prevent future problems.

Taking a humane and thorough approach is key when dealing with nesting bird activity safely and effectively.

Hi, I’m Phil — the owner of Barnard Environmental.

I’ve been working in pest control for over 10 years and started the business back in 2020, originally as Barnard Pest Control. Since then, the business has continued to grow and now provides a wide range of pest control and environmental services across Kent.

Being a local business based in Maidstone, I take a lot of pride in providing an honest, reliable and professional service to all of our customers — whether it’s a small domestic job or larger commercial work.

No two days are ever the same in this industry, but helping people solve problems and giving customers peace of mind is what makes it worthwhile.

🐀 Whilst sitting in the van today after our first visit at a new client, we were greeted by this rat scurrying straight past the van 👀

Safe to say it confirmed the level of activity pretty quickly…

Rodent activity is often much more visible than people realise, especially around properties where food sources and access points are available.

A thorough inspection is always the first step in identifying the extent of the problem and putting together an effective treatment plan.

🌧️⛈️ Safe to say the weather tested us today…

Working through hail storms, thunder, torrential downpours and everything else the British weather could throw at us while carrying out pigeon proofing and guano cleaning work on this property in Maidstone 🐦

Despite the conditions, the job still needed doing — removing heavy pigeon contamination, cleaning affected areas and installing proofing measures to help prevent the problem returning.

Pigeon guano isn’t just unpleasant, it can also pose health risks and cause damage to buildings if left untreated.

Not the easiest day to be working outside… but we got there in the end 👍

🐀 This is why drain inspections matter…

During a recent inspection, we discovered a drain heavily contaminated with rat faeces — clear evidence of ongoing rodent activity beneath the property.

When dealing with rats, it’s not enough to just look inside the building.
👉 We always inspect drainage systems where rodent activity is suspected, as damaged or compromised drains are often a major access route.

Without identifying the source of the problem, infestations are far more likely to return.

A thorough inspection is key to finding out why the activity is happening — not just treating the symptoms.
