A few months ago this business grew faster than I could handle, and I want to be honest about what that actually looked like.
It didn't look like success. It looked like:
โ Missed appointments.
โ Complaints I didn't answer quickly enough.
โ Jobs slipping a week, then two.
โ And me sat in the van outside a customer's house not wanting to knock, because I knew I'd let them down and I didn't know what to say.
๐ฅต I burnt out. Properly. Anxiety, and a period where I wasn't coping at all. The work was there, I just hadn't built anything underneath it to hold the weight.
๐ช What I've come to understand is that burying your head costs more than the awkward conversation ever would. Every one of those problems got worse in the dark and smaller the moment I actually faced it.

A review of pricing so the round is sustainable rather than propped up on goodwill.
๐ Some of it's done, some of it's still in progress.
๐ค And I've spent a fair bit of time going back to customers I'd let down and putting it right.
I'm not writing this for sympathy. I'm writing it because I think a lot of small business owners are in the middle of it right now, saying yes to everything, telling themselves it's fine.
It isn't fine. But it is fixable.
Five years in, this is the strongest the business has ever been, not because it's the biggest, but because it's finally built properly.
