Luton Phoenix Players

After 34 joyful years as part of the amateur dramatic scene in Luton, the time has come for the Phoenix Players to take their final bow—though not without a proper celebration.

Formerly known as the Top Hatters, our society has been lighting up the stage for 80 years, and what an extraordinary journey it has been.

We are immensely proud of everything we have shared: the performances that brought stories to life, the laughter that echoed through rehearsals, and the countless memories made both on and off the stage. Even more special are the friendships formed along the way—lasting bonds that have carried on far beyond the curtain call.

And so, rather than simply closing this chapter, we would love to celebrate it in the best way we know how—with one final performance filled with familiar faces, fond memories, and plenty of joy.

We warmly invite all past and present members to join us on stage and be part of this very special occasion. Let us come together one last time to celebrate everything the Phoenix Players has been and always will be.

Free on Saturday night, fancy a bit music and entertainment? Join us for 'Stars in the their eyes' at Lilley village hall this Saturday (18th) night at 8pm...bring your friends, drinks and snacks for a fun evening. £8, under 10's free!

Luton Library Theatre invite you to come on down to their Open Day on Sunday 19th October, between 12noon and 4pm.

Come and see all the great improvements that have been made to the theatre, walk on the stage, experience backstage, and see the amazing lighting and sound facilities from the Tech Room.

There will be lots of volunteers from Luton Creative Community there to show you around and answer any questions. See the exciting shows that are coming to the theatre and maybe sign up as a volunteer! Or just relax with a drink in the comfortable bar?

Bring your own drinks and nibbles (no nuts) and try your luck at our games and raffle. We have a hamper to keep the kids entertained...flying cyclone, pop ball, skipping rope, sand art, dobble, water balloons, capri sun, ice pops, cookies and moams...don't miss out!

Hey everybody.

This time 5 years ago, Phoenix hit a bit of a crossroads. Increased costs for putting on shows coupled with extortionate costs for venue hire, began to dictate heavily what we were able to do, the one certainty was that we wanted to carry on, it was a huge decision for a society that has always been “musical theatre” to look at doing a play, and I am so glad we did. Following on from the success of “Outside Edge” at the start of last year, we followed it up with “Calendar Girls” and then Abigail’s Party” this year. The society that always did musicals has not only made a good job of 3 successful plays on the bounce, we’ve also also picked up a couple of awards with NODA along the way. We’re delighted that this year Phoenix have again been nominated for awards for Calendar Girls and Abigail’s Party.

I would like to express my thanks to everybody in Phoenix that keeps Phoenix going. Whilst we might not be the biggest armature dramatic society, or have huge bank balances in place, what we do have is a core team of people, some stretching back over 30 years (and then some) who’ve backed this all the way. To get some recognition for doing what we love is the icing on the cake.
