🐝 Ever wondered where Wasps get the material to build their nests?
This Wasp is chewing on seasoned oak, scraping off tiny wood fibres and mixing them with saliva to create a paper-like pulp. They then use this to build and expand their nest, creating the familiar paper-like structure we often find in lofts, sheds, shrubbery, and underground.
It’s a fascinating process and a great reminder that, despite their reputation, Wasps are remarkable little engineers.
If you spot wasps collecting wood like this, it usually means an active nest is nearby.
