I really must start writing some of my stories of the past times in pest control

Rat in the Bank
When the pager bleeps twice fins a phone box and hopefully it's working in the late 80s early 90s we did have no mobile phones . Mum said got a job in na bank in central London two rats are trapped in the basement I got there and the staff were happy to see me, they said there is two rats in the basement one under a bin the other at large Into the basement and yes there was a rat under a bin I managed to catch that one but the next one was hiding, I looked everywhere and could not find It. I went back upstairs and told the manager he said there is two, well I can't find it im sorry ok maybe it's gone. Then the scream came a member of staff went down made tea and put the bag in the bin and yes the rat was hiding in the bin. I went down and chased it around the kitchen for about 5 minutes my brother came looking for me as I was taking so long and the rat ran out the door and straight into the vault that had a enormous door and bars, I went up again and explained what had happened, the manager said well you can't go in there! so to this day I never did catch the rat and last time I saw him he was living with millions of pounds in his new home

Being young and thinking I knew it all, my dad sent me a job for a grey squirrel in a front room. I knocked on the door wasps nest gloves on and a torch I was ready to deal with this rodent. I was going to bravely pick it up and let him go outside, why not they are friendly in the park so this was going to be easy. The owner left a dog bowl of water and some food as a snack if he decided this was home until he was removed by me. Looking around no squirrel to be seen I thought this is good he has climbed to the window that he used to come in the evening before. Then a scrabbling behind the sofa I peered over a pair of eyes looked up at me. Ok they are friendly, he did not respond to my suggestion of "ok little chap can you go out again please" no chance he was going no where. Gloves on I will gently get his tail and belly and lift him to the window so he can go out again, reaching slowly down, tail gently held now its belly then BANG straight through the gloves into my finger. I fell back and the squirrel ran across the room and back outside never to be seen again. The homeowner hearing the commotion opened the door and was greeted by me glove off finger bleeding and heading to the door, My carpet she yelled, not are you ok? as I was rushing to get out the house bleeding finger in my other hand, then the door slammed behind. A phone call to dad explains ing what happened was greeted with serves you right for trying to pick it up.

I remember my dads story of how a rat ran up in house trouser leg, yes dad we heard this before we would all say as he went into detail of a furry rodent running up his trousers and him being not bothered until his friend hit is with a stick. I was in a pub yard checking a rat box when the landlord enquired how's your dad? not sen him for a while . I said he's good I treat here now and he is in the office drinking tea and complaining how he is so busy and never gets a break. Did he ever tell you the story of their rat in his trousers? Oh no he tells the customers this story too, yes lots of times, but don't believe him he makes things up, it's not he said I saw it ! now this is fun I thought I will get the truth. he said your dada and hid friend were chasing a rat around the yard and it ran up inside his overalls, he just stood there and said to his friend hit it Fred hit it. Poor fred was not sure was it better to try and risk missing and hitting my dads leg? he paused and the rat went up over and then down the other sid. I have to admit I never believed him but I do now.

Wasps are back again, I remember going to a wasps nest in a loft being young and thinking I knew it all I said to the two nice house holdeers who were frightened I'm not scared I have treated lots of nests, up I went in to the loft been keepers jacket and gloves, there it was about 3 feet wide I got ready and had my legs in front of me, WHACK not a good idea the entire nest fell on my legs covered in wasps now it was not long before one stung my ankle, like lightning I got to the ladder only to see the jacket caught with that 3 wasps very angry with my refurbishment of there home one sting me on the eye lid that's it I jumped and ran in the bedroom and begun to spray fly killer over myself. explaining to the house holders what went on was met with smiles and pity as my eye decided to swell, from that day I have never taken a nest for granted.
