We attended site to investigate a blocked sink which was not draining correctly. Upon inspection, we found that the float line was heavily restricted with a build-up of limescale and debris, which was causing the blockage and poor flow.

We initially carried out descaling works using the RIDGID K9-12 to mechanically remove the scale from the float line. This successfully restored flow within the affected section of pipework.

However, during further checks along the 40m run that had been bossed into the 3-inch pipe, we identified that the pipework had insufficient fall. The incorrect gradient was preventing proper discharge and would likely have caused recurring blockages and potential foul odours in the future.

To rectify the issue, we removed the defective connection and installed a new 3-inch bossing eye with the correct fall to ensure suitable flow and self-cleansing velocity. All pipework was tested upon completion and confirmed to be running freely with no further issues.

Attended site with our drain milling machine to descale the foul line serving the female toilets. The pipework was found to have a heavy build-up of scale deposits, which were restricting flow and causing multiple blockages.

Mechanical milling equipment was used to remove the scale build-up from the internal pipe walls and restore the pipe to its original bore. The line was thoroughly cleared and flow tested upon completion, confirming wastewater is now discharging correctly with no further restrictions observed at the time of attendance.

An inspection was carried out on the existing waste/vent pipe installation serving the drainage system. During assessment, it was identified that a flexible ducting hose had been previously installed in place of proper pipework for the air admittance valve (AAV) connection.

Flexible ducting is not suitable for drainage ventilation as it restricts airflow, can sag over time, and may cause poor venting performance, leading to slow drainage, trap seal loss, or foul odours.

The upgraded 4-inch PVC pipework now provides:

Correct airflow for the AAV to function efficiently.

Improved ventilation of the drainage system.

Reduced risk of negative pressure within pipework.

Prevention of foul smells entering the property.

A compliant and more durable long-term installation.

The drainage ventilation system is now operating as intended with proper flow and performance.
