Fundraising for 2021!

This weekend sees the start of our fundraising events for 2021. Sunday 11th April is the Virtual Royal Parks Half Marathon. Unfortunately the actual event, as with so many others, has been postponed to October but we are still taking part and running the 13.1 miles to raise some funds for our charity. Hi, Sadly, this year, the events that usually allow us to raise much needed money to help support our charity have all been postponed or cancelled. The London Marathon was initially postponed until October 4th this year but has now been cancelled and replaced with a 'Virtual' run where participants can take part in their own, socially distanced challenge. The Great North Run, due to take place on Sunday 13th September has also been cancelled and replaced with a 'Virtual' event.

I had planned to take part in both of these events but instead I am now taking on the challenge of the first ever Virtual London Marathon and Virtual Great North Run.

The Virtual Great North Run is a half marathon on 13th September 2020 and I will be running a nice trail along the river Thames between Ham and Putney.

These events will be much more challenging than the usual events as there will be no crowd support, no drinks and fuel stations, no music and other entertainment and of course no other participants to help encourage and support along the 13.1 or 26.2 miles.

We are raising funds to purchase two electric vehicles to replace our existing old minibus and van. This will help us become more eco-friendly and to reduce our impact on the environment and would really help our carbon footprint. The vehicles are essential for us to provide transport for our trainees who work in our cleaning department and for various deliveries.

Hi,

I would like to update you on my 2.6 Challenge for SRA which I completed on Thursday 21st May. I took a photo every day so you can see what I have been up to! My challenge was to run at least 2.6 miles every day for 26 days in place of running the London Marathon and to raise funds for SRA.

So, I started on 26th April, the day the London Marathon would have taken place, this was my first run in several weeks. I decided to run in rainbow colours, also in support of the NHS so had a different colour for every day of the week…. Yes, I have that many running tops! This was a double challenge for me as going from not running for some time to running every day was quite difficult plus I very rarely run alone (which I hate) so really had to force myself every day to get the job done! I went out regardless of the weather and had to face rain, wind, hailstones and in the last few days, lots of sun, the hottest day of the year so far! 🥵😎 But, 26 days later I have finished. I have run 150 miles in total which is over 5 Marathons (or 11 Half Marathons!) and my total time running was 26.2 hours.
