Flight Forced To Land After Pilot Caught Performing Oral S*x On Co-Pilot Mid-Flight
Omaha, Nebraska - July 3, 2026
A regional passenger flight was forced to make an unscheduled landing Thursday after two cockpit crew members were allegedly caught engaging in a sexual act while the aircraft was still in the air.
Officials say the American Airlines flight was traveling from Denver to Indianapolis when a senior flight attendant entered the cockpit to report turbulence concerns and found the pilot in what investigators called “an extremely compromising position” with his head maneuvering in and around the area of the co-pilot’s lap.
The aircraft, carrying 86 passengers and four crew members, was diverted to Omaha after the flight attendant notified the cabin manager, who contacted dispatch.
“The plane itself was operating normally,” said Federal Aviation Safety spokesperson Marla Keene. “The emergency was not mechanical. The emergency was that the people responsible for the aircraft were no longer behaving like people responsible for an aircraft.”
Passengers said they were first told the landing was due to “crew irregularities,” though several became suspicious when airport police met the plane at the gate.
“I thought maybe someone got sick,” passenger Nolan Briggs said. “Then I saw the co-pilot get escorted off with his shirt untucked, and the whole mood changed.”
The pilot, identified by sources as 44-year-old Grant Hollis, and co-pilot Evan Mercer, 38, were both removed from duty pending investigation. Officials say the incident could result in license suspension, termination, and federal penalties.
American Airlines released a statement calling the alleged behavior “unacceptable, unsafe, and wildly inconsistent with company standards.”
Investigators are reviewing cockpit audio and crew reports to determine how long the incident lasted and whether the aircraft was ever left without proper control.
The airline said affected passengers were placed on a replacement flight later that evening.
