Silverfish - What are they and how can you prevent an Infestation in your home?
Silverfish are creepy little silvery nightmare creatures that you can often find in the dark, damp corners of your home. They are harmless to us and our pets, but that doesn’t make them any less creepy. They are a natural disaster for books, clothing, and anything else which contains starch.
Unlike other household pests, they are slow to establish infestation levels of terribleness but, once they get to that point, they are incredibly difficult to control and remove.
The best way to get rid of silverfish is to stop them from invading your home in the first place. There are a few things you can do to deter them:
1. Decrease the humidity
2. Store food properly
3. Remove other food sources
4. Clear away any clutter such as old newspapers and magazines
5. Take care of your walls. Fill in any holes or cracks with caulk to seal up silverfish entry points
6. Keep your home warm. Try to keep the temperature of your home around 26 degrees Celsius or above
