Craven Grain Storage ltd

Craven Grain Storage ltd Craven Grain Storage Ltd is a fully independent farmer-owned co-operative grain store located in rural Herefordshire.

Craven Grain Storage Ltd is typical of the national network of central grain handling farmers co-operatives established in many parts of the country. Formed in 1980 as a purpose built grain store on a site of approximately two acres, it is situated well away from residential areas and with access to all normal utilities and services. Originally destined for a site near Craven Arms in Shropshire, h

ence the name "Craven”, planning permission was refused at the last minute and the need to be up and running for that harvest forced the directors to search further a-field. A suitable site was found at Shobdon Airfield in the north of Herefordshire, where the company has remained. Trading as a farmer's co-operative storage society means that the storage space is owned by the share holding members and that the society operates on a non profit making basis. Craven Grain Storage Ltd expanded over the years by adding more silos, driers and cleaners, and upgrading the infrastructure in general. A major expansion took place in 1986 with the aid of European Union grants when a 12,000 tonne flat store was built. In 2011 the existing flat store was extended to provide a total storage facility of 32,000 tonnes. Over 80% of our members are also members of Openfield Grain Marketing, who are our preferred marketing partner. However, members may market their grain from store by using the marketing partner of their own choice. http://www.openfield.co.uk/storage/store-craven.php

After a very hot tractor run, its time to say a big, big thankyou to some people, although this was my first tractor run I was not aware how much work goes on behind the scenes, Leominster vintage did a great job of the organising and there marshals were fantastic. We also need to thank Richard and Penny Corbett, Steve and Maggs Chilman, Ian and Sarah Morris, Mark and Gordon, and finally Shobdon Aero Club. Without these people allowing us on there land providing us with a great experience and incredible views it would not have been half the run. Last of all I started talking with Andrew sheers and Antony stokes in January this year about a tractor run in memory of Tony Hall, it was agreed and forward we moved, so thankyou Andrew and Antony for making it possible and providing us with a route we will never forget.
