Flood preparation work on a hot tub located near a local stream that has burst it's bank over the last two winters and a swim spa in a pit that is unfortunately the lowest point in that particular area. When a flood occurs the electrical components can easily get submerged and damaged, both of these had to be repaired in the spring at great expense and inconvenience, but not this winter. We can now evaluate the swim spas new flood drainage system without risk and see if it needs this doing again next year.

A couple of jobs these past few days have been Flood Preparation.
Both of these were flooded last winter and ended up with big repair bills from seized pumps and other electrical components being damaged so this winter I was asked to strip as much out as possible, come spring we can refit everything, test, flush the system and enjoy.

Been a few leaks to sort this week, from a tub recommissioning, a spurting pipe then to this overly complicated drain and flow manifold with so many joints that made it a nightmare to say where exactly the leak originated. The recommissioning is covered in my previous post, the spurting pipe was a straightforward drain and pipe replacement but this manifold setup was cut out completely and redesigned to a simpler setup that's now also serviceable.

Some before and after photos.
This tub was left unused for a couple of years, the owner wanted it up and running again. Firstly we needed to fully test everything. Circulation pump seized and leaking, massage pump 1 refused to run, pump lockring cracked, jets falling out, one pipe leak and generally home to lots of snails, soil and maybe rodents.
Persistence got everything working just enough to confirm what was good and bad so a course of action was now possible.
New circulation pump with adaptors for the older fittings was sourced and fitted, massage pump 1 just needed a new capacitor, lockring was cut off and a split collar was fitted, jets cleaned out and refitted, leaky pipework cut out and fixed, thoroughly flushed the whole pipework system, cleaned and polished up, even the old crispy headrests were made to look half decent and usable. Amazingly the cover came up really well, most of the stains came out and considering its age it's wasn't that heavy.
I was quite pleased with the outcome of this job and hope to get many more years of enjoyment from this tub.
