Another successful project completed by the Subscans specialist off-road Rail team 🚧🚜

Working alongside one of our tier one partners, the team tackled a hard-to-access remote culvert on the NWR infrastructure. Using our specialist off-road tractor recycling unit, we successfully gained access, excavated the buried outfall, and removed all silt and debris efficiently and safely.

The job also uncovered a surprise obstacle — a 25L oil drum lodged inside the culvert — which was successfully removed by the team.

With 0% silt left in the invert, a full CCTV survey was completed, providing a clear assessment of the culvert’s condition.

In just 24 hours, Subscan QWM mobilised to support a Tier 1 partner on an emergency project for Network Rail. 🚝

Our specialist rail team deployed our extreme off-road capabilities to access a challenging site in the Foston area of North Yorkshire, where a culvert blockage was impacting a wider drainage catchment.

Thanks to early contractor engagement and a highly coordinated response, we were able to quickly locate and clear the issue—ensuring minimal disruption and a safe, efficient resolution.

This project highlights the importance of agility, expertise, and the ability to operate in difficult terrain when it matters most.

Using our specialist off-road recycler, we accessed the area, completed a condition survey, jetted, and cleared the obstruction — helping resolve the issue quickly while minimising environmental impact.

When heavy rainfall washed debris and stone down the river, it became trapped beneath a Network Rail structure — threatening to cause flooding and major disruption to railway infrastructure in West Yorkshire.

Our rail teams were called out on a 14-day emergency remit to tackle the issue. Working within the watercourse, our DISAB crew removed 65 tonnes of built-up stone, reinstating the river’s normal flow and preventing any potential delays across the network.

We’re on the lookout for motivated Drainage Assistants to join our growing team! You’ll work as part of a dedicated two-person crew, operating jetting and vacuum equipment to tackle a variety of drainage challenges — from blockages to flood response and infrastructure cleaning.

This is a hands-on role that requires experience with gully tankers and jetting machinery. You’ll travel across the North to both residential and commercial sites, so flexibility and a proactive attitude are key.

✅ Drainage experience is preferred but not essential — a positive, can-do attitude is what matters most.
✅ Relevant qualifications/certifications such as HPWJ, CSCS, and Working at Heights are desirable.
✅ Competence in using workforce management software (e.g. JobWatch).
