⚠️ 10 YEARS OF RAT INGRESS ⚠️

A very different type of clearance and decontamination project for us this week — tasked with the cleansing and clearance of electrical rapid charging cooling units heavily affected by rat activity spanning over a decade.

Large volumes of nesting materials, contamination and debris had built up inside the units, creating serious hygiene and safety concerns for employees required to service and maintain the equipment.

Our role was to make the units safe for engineers and staff to work around by carrying out a controlled clearance and cleansing process, reducing contamination risks before further works can take place.

During our initial survey, multiple proofing concerns and recommendations were also raised to help prevent future ingress and repeat contamination issues. We now await instruction from the client whilst decisions are made on the next stage of works.

Definitely no small task — but another example of why long-term rodent activity should never be ignored.

Rat Entry Point Found After 4+ Years – Warwick

This one’s a perfect example of why the problem never goes away unless you find the actual cause.

We were called out to a property in Warwick with ongoing rat activity — noises in the loft, signs in the kitchen, and an issue that had been going on for over 4 years.

After a full inspection, we traced it back to a manhole that had been built over incorrectly, leaving clear gaps and direct access into the cavity wall. From there, it’s an easy route straight up into the loft and across into the property.

No amount of baiting or trapping will fix that long term — the rats will just keep coming back.

✅ Access routes confirmed (cavity → loft → kitchen)
✅ Permanent proofing solution planned

German Cockroach Treatment – HMO Kitchen in Coventry 🪳

We were called out to a shared HMO property in Coventry this week to deal with a heavy German cockroach infestation in the kitchen.

These aren’t your average pest — German cockroaches thrive in warm environments with easy access to food and water, which makes kitchens the perfect breeding ground. In HMOs, they can spread quickly between rooms if not dealt with properly.

On this job, we carried out a targeted treatment using professional-grade gel baits and insecticide, focusing on key harbourage areas including:

• Around pipework and electrical points

We also identified contributing factors and advised the landlord on practical steps to prevent reinfestation, including hygiene improvements and sealing entry points.

Another serious loft transformation completed for Joe Day Pest Control 🐀

Following a severe rat infestation, we carried out a full loft clearance — removing 110m² of contaminated insulation, safely disposing of waste, clearing all rat faeces, and biocide treating the loft boards to ensure the space was fully decontaminated.

We then reinsulated the loft to a minimum of 270mm, improving energy efficiency, and installed a raised boarded storage area for safe, usable access.
