Notification
All pet cats in England must be microchipped by 10 June 2024.
The new rules mean that cats must be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks, except for feral or community unowned cats.
Indoor-only cats must be microchipped as well.
As part of the new rules, owners must keep their contact details up to date on a Defra-approved microchipping database.
If owners miss the June deadline, the new law states that you will have 21 days to have your cat microchipped, or you may face a fine of up to £500.

JOB VACANCY: ​ Weekend Cattery Assistant (Immediate Start)
Highlands Boarding Cattery, Kettering - Is a long established family run boarding cattery in Kettering, and we are seeking a passionate; hardworking and dedicated individual to join the team. Previous experience is not needed as full training will be given. However, you should have a keen interest in cats and be confident around them; not shy with customers and physically fit.
Hours of Work:​Saturdays & Sundays​ 08:00 – 11:00 & 15:00 – 18:00
(Hours may vary during peak periods, with the flexibility to cover other busy days “as & when”. You will also be required to cover holidays and sickness for other staff members as required. This will require you to be able work weekdays).
Duties will include:
Meeting & greeting customers; Simple administration; Financial transactions; Feeding & caring for animals boarded; Cleaning & disinfecting of boarding pens & chalets; Litter changing; Laundry of pet bedding; some maintenance tasks.
It is essential that the right candidate has:
• A pleasant; positive and polite manner to interact with customers.
• Is adaptable to everyday situations and the needs of the business
• A love of animals. Please note that as well as boarding cats, we also board other small pets (rabbits; guinea pigs; tortoises; etc).

Haven't posted in a while, and that is because we have been busy undertaking a major refurbishment of the cattery. We undertook the work during our quiet season, and the few residents we had took great interest in what was going on. Think they liked the attention and wanted to ensure that the upgrade was to their liking. We would like to thank Steve and his team from APS Landscapes & Building Contractors, and Wayne and Michelle and their team from M&W Electrical Ltd. We are thrilled with the upgrade, and are getting some great feedback from our customers and the cats.

What a busy July we have had, and August is looking to be the same, but we do still have some availability for the August Bank holiday . THE CATTERY REMAINS IN OPERATION, BUT WITH STRICT PROCEDURES TO ENSURE THE HEALTH AND WELFARE OF OUR STAFF, CUSTOMERS AND CATS IN OUR CARE.
ARRIVALS AND COLLECTIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Arrivals
When arriving, please park on the drive. When approaching cattery if another customer is at our entrance gate, please wait a good distance back of at least 2 metres.
If /when clear, please ring our bell or telephone us on 07444 436926 and wait to be let in.
We will be there to discuss details with you at an appropriate distance.
Please then leave the carrier and any other items (food, bedding, medication etc) just inside the office. You can then leave and we will collect your cat and belongings and take them straight to their pen, settle them. If requested, we can text/email you a picture within the hour, so you know your pet is all settled.
Collections
When arriving, please park on the drive. When approaching cattery if another customer is at our entrance gate, please wait a good distance back of at least 2 metres.
If /when clear, please ring our bell or telephone us on 07444 436926 and wait for us to place your cat in their carrier. There may be a couple of minutes wait while we put your cat in their carrier and collect their items. When done we will bring your cat and any items up to the office by the gate and let you in to collect your cat. Our office area is covid secure with appropriate virus screens and PPE available for use. Payment via card is preferred, but we will accept payment via cash or cheque.
Boarding of cats from households with a confirmed covid-19 infection:
To our knowledge, (as of 06/07) no cats staying or that have stayed with us, have owners tested positive for Covid-19. We have pens allocated which we will use if cats are brought to us from infected households (our Isolation Pens) where they will remain for a minimum of three days from arrival as a precaution and in line with government advice, before they are relocated into the main boarding pen area. The cattery will strictly follow procedures as advised by the government. Of course these cats will still be given all the love and care we give to all our residents.

Highlands is looking forward to welcoming back our customers. During lock-down we have been busy with an extensive spring/summer clean! The front garden is still a project in progress, but work anticipated to be started soon, the back garden is looking colourful, and the birds have been enjoying the gooseberries! Blackbirds frequently following my gardening activities hunting for worms.

The weather is hot and sunny, lockdown is easing, and judging by the enquiries we have been getting, our customers are looking forward to organising their summer holidays. It may be only a UK holiday break for most of us this year, but don't forget to book your pets in for their holiday when you go away. Looking forward to welcoming you back to Highlands.
