A big thank you to the evergreen Derik Raven who stepped out of retirement at very short notice this week to keep the business ticking over while I recovered from a ruptured cyst in my knee (just as delightful as it sounds in case you're wondering).

He sent me the below picture at an extremely impressive property out by Essich that he was working in earlier in the week, I reckon he's quite enjoyed getting back on the tools and meeting and chatting to customers again however carpet cleaning is no joke and certainly isn't easy on the joints, so I'm sure he'll be glad to be relieved of his duties! I returned to some light work this morning and got through it fairly comfortably, so I'm looking forward to getting back out for a busy week from Monday onwards.

Good to know that I've got at least two of absolutely everything in case of a breakdown, including myself 😂

Today's job was in a holiday apartment at Fort Augustus Abbey to deal with a bad blood stain on a high end wool carpet. The customer contacted us expecting to have to replace the carpet, but as it was such good quality they wanted an opinion on whether it could be salvaged.

Thankfully with a bit of know-how (and a lot of patience) the carpet came up like new, and is now fully clean, sanitised and decontaminated, saving our very grateful customer a four figure sum of money.

After a very busy 2025 we have officially wound down for the festivities. We'll now be taking a break to enjoy some family time until the 4th of January, however we will still be available to contact for bookings and queries throughout the holiday period.

What a brilliant response to our pledge to donate 10% of business income to Mikeysline for the month of November in recognition of Men's Mental Health Month. November is generally a quieter month for me but I was absolutely flat out making it one of my busiest months yet, and the money raised totalled £494 (with a little help from some kind donations along the way), which was rounded up to £500 for the sake of a nice even number. Really delighted to have been able to donate to a great cause, and thank you to everyone who kept me run off my feet all month, it was well worth it!

It's less than a week until November, and as many of you will know, November is Men's Mental Health Month. In recognition of this, DJ Cleaning Services pledges to donate 10% of the total business income for the month of November to Mikeysline.

Mikeysline provides a vital service to young people across the North of Scotland who are experiencing severe mental health distress by offering them a safe place to talk without judgement, and support them when they need it most.

So, if you've been thinking of getting your carpets freshened up to impress the in-laws over the holidays, or having your sofa looking it's best for those Christmas morning pictures, why not book in ahead of the December rush and help raise as much money as possible for an invaluable local charity.

Yesterday I was called out by one of our regular customers after their little girl had become a little unwell and was sick on the carpet. While it can be easy to panic when something like this happens and throw everything under the kitchen sink at it to try to solve the problem, most of the time this just makes matters worse and can often lead to permanent staining/damage to your carpet. There are also thousands of 'home remedies' to be found on Google however none of these take into consideration the huge variety of carpet materials/fibres, weaves, backings, staining source etc which can react badly to household products.

For the best chance of results like those seen below, always get in touch with a professional at the earliest possible stage who will be able to talk you through the initial steps you need to take to contain the problem, and arrange an appointment for a professional clean.

We had a very productive day yesterday carrying out work for five individual customers between Kintail and Glenelg. This started out as just a couple of small jobs for a lady and her mum so I suggested asking some neighbours if they'd also like some work done while I was in the area. The lady making the enquiry had the excellent idea of posting on the local community page letting people know I'd be in the village, and three more customers came forward.

The advantage to the customer is that we offer multi-buy discounts for bigger jobs, and in situations like this where we can complete work for customers back to back we treat it as one large job so that everyone benefits from the discount. Also, as this was a job with considerable travel involved (four hour round trip), we could divide the mileage fee resulting in further savings.

By co-ordinating the work to be done in one visit to the area this has saved a total of over £300 (or around £60 per customer) compared to if we had been called out to each job individually, and of course this greatly reduces our carbon footprint by covering all the work in one trip so everybody is a winner!
