Nobody thinks about the salt spray off Mortehoe.

Planted six hydrangeas at a clifftop cottage last May.
By July, the leaves were brown and curled.

The balcony glass looked like a frosted bathroom window.

Salt spray from the Bristol Channel builds a thick crust here.
Wiping it with a cloth just smears the grit.

I used a squeegee and a concentrated vinegar solution.
Three passes on each pane before the streak disappeared.

The guests arrive at 4pm for a week in 'Little Switzerland'.

The gutters were overflowing with wet Exmoor oak leaves.

One downpipe was blocked solid.

Water was already backing up under the slate.
