We are very happy to confirm that the new factory in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland is now up and running. Such a beautiful part of the UK. We have worked shoulder to shoulder with Neil, at the workbench in the Upwood factory, during the second and third heatwaves of this Summer. And now we have handed over the reins to Neil, in Hawick, and he is working through his orders and repairs at a steady canter!

This page will close soon. It just remains for us to say a huge Thank You to everyone of you, for your loyalty, support and feedback over the (far too many!) decades.

In time, and God willing, Brian and I will bump into you along some river bank, hoping to catch that Fish of a Lifetime!
Thank you so much!
Brian and Kay

We are delighted to announce that the fourth generation to steer Bruce & Walker fishing rods, will be the new owner, Mr Neil Fox.

We have worked with Neil for a while now. His philosophy and intent, for continuing the tradition of Bruce & Walker rods and blanks being Made in Britain, as as strong, and as committed, as our own.

Many of the fishing fraternity in North America will already know Neil, from his time living there. But he always planned to return home to his native Scotland. I know that all our customers will be pleased to learn that Neil will be manufacturing fully finished rods and repairs, based in the Scottish Borders.

There will be a small period of transition, during the coming weeks, as we help Neil move the Bruce & Walker factory from Upwood to the Scottish Borders. Thereafter, we will be on hand in the background, for help and support, if and when needed. Neil inherits a very full order book, and he will be up and running in no time at all.

Obviously for us, it holds mixed emotions. We will miss the wonderful network of customers, both within the trade and our fabulous private customers, who have been with us for generations. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your loyalty and support over the decades.

But we couldn't be happier to pass on our family business, after 66 years, to someone who shares the same high values as ourselves, and who will continue manufacturing Bruce & Walker rods and blanks in Great Britain. We wish him every success.
Brian and Kay Potter

On this very sad day, there are only two heartfelt words that we need: Thank you.

Thank you for always leading by example.
Thank you for always being true.
Thank you for devoting your whole life to our nation.
Thank you.

The devil is in the detail. So they say. The detail that this customer researched and sampled, to get exactly what he wanted, is second to none. Even down to the 14 wale corduroy material in Rust, for his rod bag. Second. To. None. The end result is stunning. WOW!
The rod is a Trout Speycaster 12’6” #4-5 4p, which is such a fabulous trout rod. And the custom build chosen for it, is one of a kind. Bold decisions. We salute you, Sir. Thank you and jolly well done!

Get ready! Sunny gigs on! Here we go……………….. ! If this doesn’t put you in the mood for Summer, nothing will. 😊 Such a popular salmon rod these days – the Walker 14’6” in 4 sections. And this customer took it to a whole new level. WOW! How fantastic to think, that there’s not another rod in the whole world, just like his. One of a kind. I think it’s amazing. We love it. It’s what we do. God bless you, Sir!

We’re all looking for something just a little bit different these days. How joyful it was therefore, to be asked to make this very special blank and special build. Highly labour intensive. Very skilled custom build thread work. And a super duper rod at the end of it. A stunning Double Speycaster six piece rod. This is British handmade craftsmanship at its finest. Wonderful!

“Oh to be in England now that April’s there” - Robert Browning. Well, March is shaping up quite nicely too! And to complement the gorgeous weather we are currently enjoying; we have a wide choice of gorgeous rods too. It’s a bit like choosing a favourite flower from a wonderful bouquet. They are all splendid. But here’s just one that caught my eye. Thank you so much, Sir. Stunning colour combinations!

Spring. Full of joy. Full of colour. (Am I too early? Never too early to be optimistic :-) ) We have Spring in the workshop! These stunning rod colours were lined up on the trestles this morning, freshly out of the drying room and ready for the next stage. Every single one is different. Different rods, different colours, different handles. Just like the borders in our gardens; colour and joy popping up everywhere!

After the dull and dreary month of November, we all rush into December, with hope and cheer for the coming Christmas season. And nothing adds a bit of sparkle like a new fishing rod! This one has particularly caught my eye. Firstly it’s a Summer Run – any reference to Summer has my vote. And secondly, the colour combinations are utterly delightful. What a tonic of Winter cheer – and hopes of warmer times to come!

Autumn comes with regal ease. It is the season of mellow fruitfulness, when the falling leaves of yellow and red, carpet the grass. There is a hint of earthly aroma and a sense of inner calm. Inspired by this, the customer chose his colours wisely, to suit the season. What a joy it was to provide him with various samples for colour and whipping thread and tipping silk. At times, it felt like preparing a ball gown for the coming season. Here is the stunning result. Another new blank for this customer – long rod, light lines. The ever popular Walker 16’6” 3p + handle, in a #7-8 line rating. (All the custom build specification details appear next to the appropriate photos). It was a joy to work on, and the end result is a seasonal masterpiece. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank Heavens for fishing! It seems the world is going to Hell in a handcart, and “fings ain’t wot they used to be”. But as long as we can get our feet in the river, that makes up for a lot. Imagine my joy therefore, when this beauty jumped out at me from the workshop. (Ring a Ding). This rod screams, look at me! This rod shouts, I don’t care about the last, ghastly 18 months; I’ve got this, I’m on it, and I am heading for the river. 😊 This rod was named after the stunning River Lakselva in Norway. The colour scheme is significant to the owner and it is a celebration of bright and fabulous. Everything that has been missing in our lives over recent times. Joyful! (Thank you so much, sir!)
