I have treated Thousands of Wasp nests since i decided to start a pest control business 18 years(?) ago.
Thankfully i was immediately backed by racing yards, farms, estates which i helped with crop protection etc previously which i am forever grateful and since, they always get a reduced rate, barter with their produce or sometimes free of charge.
Earlier today i was asked to treat a wasp nest above a customers entrance to their front door.
As per usual, although the customer did say he was like to be out/no-one home ,i did ring the door bell, with a small hole above my head with Wasp traffic in/put.
Back to the motor to prep the applicator and put a Bee/wasp suit jacket, gauntlets and off i pop.
I am often in shorts and will usually read how they will react as with when i am removing a roof, chimney etc to safely remove established colonies of Honeybees.
Simples, nozzle in the ingress hole, 1 pull of the trigger on the applicator and walk away.
Just one of them easy ones.
However...
Firstly i am glad i had my work trousers on!
As soon as the nozzle was inches away from the hole, there were wasps on my face veil, arms and legs etc.
In goes the nozzle of the applicator, a short burst of Vulcan and the second i pulled the nozzle out, it was like a swarm of Honeybees around me which the sound is lovely when amongst 30+ thousand Bees.
I walked to my motor, they came with me, and further away but fortunately i carry a quick 'Knock down' spray.
Eventually got into the motor, immediately telephoned the customer of their mannerism and gave advice.
I have never dealt with a colony/species of Wasps like it.
On par with a Colony of Honeybees i safely removed from a roof of a property in Frosbury.
