Called out for rodent activity within a domestic property, the customer had reported gnawing on personal belongings, specifically a pair of slippers, which is suitable material for nesting. I didn't expect to arrive to a more serious problem: rats had gnawed through the water mains.

I managed to isolate the water from an external meter before assisting the customer and calling for an emergency plumber.

Rats have gnawed their way into the property up through the floor, which usually indicates an issue below ground, such as a break in the drainage system.

A trapping program has been implemented to control and monitor the situation over the next three weeks while all necessary investigation works are carried out so Crane Pest Control can eliminate the infestation and establish the root cause.

Surveys for pest activity are essential. A persistent rat infestation was resolved within minutes of our team's arrival on-site.

An outdoor toilet which was no longer in use had an uncapped pipe where the original fixture was. This was secured and capped off, thereby eliminating the need for rodenticides or traps.

The rodenticide application was substandard, and as a professional pest controller, I consider this practice unacceptable. It presents a significant risk of primary and secondary poisoning to non-target animals and domestic pets.

Prior to my involvement, a pest control technician deployed over a kilogram of highly toxic grain, which could lead to numerous problems. This demonstrates a complete disregard for environmental impact and potential risks to household occupants.

The current approach is not optimal. The entry point has been temporarily secured while awaiting builders to address structural repairs.

I question the necessity of rodenticides in this scenario, particularly when conducting a thorough site risk assessment. A trapping programme would have been a more suitable option to mitigate potential risks.

We recently received an emergency call regarding rodent activity within a client's property. The client reported frequent noises emanating from the loft and wall cavities. Crane Pest Control conducted a thorough survey to identify the source of the issue, confirming the presence of rats.

Following an extensive inspection of the client's property, no evidence of rodent activity was found around the grounds. However, a subsequent external examination of the adjacent, unoccupied property revealed clear indications of rat presence.

The presence of burrows adjacent to the soil vent pipe of the unoccupied property prompted an inspection of the drainage system for activity. Evidence clearly indicated rat burrowing within the foundations and drainage, likely contributing to the client's infestation.

Necessary treatment plan has been put in place with recommendations to resolve the issue for the customer.

Commercial properties with large waste bins, particularly those lacking proper seals, are susceptible to rodent infestations. This accessibility allows rodents to forage for food and nesting materials, establishing habitats in proximity to the bins, in outbuildings, or within residential structures.

This scenario recently affected a client whose valuable equipment was at risk of significant damage, potentially incurring costs in the thousands.

Our team, led by Paddy, identified a prominent nesting site within the insulation and wall cavity. Evidence of rodent activity, specifically insulation gnawing for bedding material, was observed.

To mitigate further issues and manage the current infestation, traps have been strategically deployed.

If you are experiencing ongoing rodent activity please get in touch with the team Crane Pest Control we will be happy to assist, your local pest control professionals.

Lots of callouts regarding squirrels and rats lately are keeping us very busy.

If you're hearing noises within the walls or scurrying above you in the loft at night, please get in touch with Crane Pest Control, who will professionally and effectively manage and control your infestation.

Squirrels are great climbers and will gnaw through most wooden or plastic soffits and fascia to gain access, or via loose tiles on the roof. Spotting lots of other squirrels around your property, particularly near your roof, is also a sign squirrels have broken into your property where they will make themselves at home.

Rats can enter the building structure if not secure, especially at a low level, so make sure to check around the property and fill and secure gaps.

Unfortunately, sometimes when nothing is found above ground, checks below ground must be carried out to determine entry. Rats can leave the drain system, especially if the drain system is compromised or a new extension adding toilets and redirecting pipes to an existing manhole leaves redundant lines open—all factors contributing to internal rat activity.

It's important to carry out thorough surveys to find the root cause, then put a plan in place to control and exclude any unwanted pests.
