This page documents the creation of the Uk's permanent science-fiction museum in the north-east of England. The museum is situated in Allendale Town- an extremely picturesque village in the North Pennines. Visitors to the museum will be able to find lovely coffee shops and amenities on hand, as well as stunning walks. The idea for the museum stemmed from my lifelong fascination with science-fictio

n. It tells the story of a young boy who dreamt of travelling to other planets- but didn’t quite make it. Instead, he had a lot of fun watching, reading, collecting, drawing, making and dreaming. From a handful of action figures and comics and staying up very late to catch old B&W movies with his Dad, this interest never waned. The museum sets out to tell a brief history of science-fiction from H.G.Wells to the current day through my experience of the genre. It will of course be biased to those movies, comics and ideas that have most affected me personally. The story will be told with many original, screen-used props and costumes, production items, animation cels and published artwork. This journey highlights the landmark worlds of Wells, ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Star Wars’, whilst also exploring key genre themes, such as robotics and dystopia. I will also be producing original, unique artwork for the museum. Keep checking back to the page to follow the ever changing museum!

Good morning all! Had to share this photo from long time museum supporter and freind George the Klingon! Thanks to the kindness of Visual Effects designer (and legend!!!) Mike Tucker- fans can see Broton at the Museum all year round....now accompanied by the Skarasen....he remains a highlight for many!!! What makes this all the more remarkable for me personally, was that I saw this costume in the mid 70s on one of my very few visits to the BBC Doctor Who Exhibitions. I need to position and light the Skarasen more effectively, but for now, at least they are reunited!

One of the good things about the Museum location is that the environment itself is extremely stable - constant temperature and humidity with no daylight and entirely zero-UV lighting. This has provided an ideal space for these pieces to be stored and displayed without incurring further deterioration loss. On top of this, the actual North Pennines climate helps too! The Northumberland hilltop environment is predominantly cool - another plus for longevity.... rubber HATES extreme heat!!!Mike and I discussed how the Cardiff Experience was, ultimately, a large metal hangar- with significant changes in temperature- resulting in an unstable environment that could accelerate the deterioration of materials such as rubber- no matter how much time was spent on restoring and stabilising the exhibits themselves. With several of the Museum exhibits having now been on display since 2018, the semi- subterranean nature of the Museum has proven a haven for these precious pieces- also with everything Behind safety glass - adds another layer of protection as - with the best will in the world- people want to touch, lightly squeeze and generally 'touch' exhibits. These pieces are so fragile and need the utmost care and attention....and thankfully my daily carefully cleaning and checks have kept everything tip top!

Again, biggest thank you to Mike for making this all possible.

Good evening all.... the biggest thank you to Andrew Ireland at UCLan for his wonderful support of the Museum. Andrew was the creative force behind the 2019 recreation of the missing 1965 episode 'Mission to the Unknown', which was broadcast on the BBC'S Doctor Who YouTube channel. It's a tremendous piece of work bringing together some incredibly talented people....to create such an authentic recreation of this legendary episode! The three lead human costumes here will be joined by some of the Alien delegate costumes in a new and exciting display in the museum - so you can come and see them first hand for yourself! #

Well....its 11 years (!) ago that Lisa and I first took the keys of Osborne House in Allendale and set sail on creating both our home and a permanent classic era small Doctor Who Museum ....with some neat classic science-fiction to boot! And what an 11 years its been.... three years of hard-slog building work rescuing the listed cellar from collapse (to transform it into the Museum building), two years of fighting some County Council members to remain open (before we'd even got going) and now over 12,000 visitors from all over the UK - and beyond- have crossed our threshold to see first-hand Doctor Who history in person- including a multitude of painstakingly restored monsters and props saved by yours truly. Donations and support from some incredible people have allowed the Museum to grow and sustain itself ....one or two gremlins on the way we're inevitable (I've learned a LOT about myself and people on this journey folks!) ....but despite any setbacks, I have achieved what I set out to- that the UK would have a small, dedicated classic Doctor Who Museum open permanently....with the lights on and a warm welcome to fans all year round. I passionately believe that its essential that the heritage from Britain's cultural SF classic should remain atleast in significant part in the UK- after all....it was the British public that paid for the show to be made in the first place! I hope the little museum here in Allendale helps keep the flame burning of the classic Doctor Who exhibtions of the 1970s....in Blackpool and Longleat. The former made such an impact upon me. Finally as I reflect on the news cutting above, I am also reminded just how far myself, my family and my dear Museum friends have come since I first opened the door to the flooded, decaying cellar of Osborne House with a mix of original and replica props. With no contacts whatsoever in either fandom or the production of Doctor Who....I just set sail and worked the long hours.... just the biggest thank you to everyone who has got the Museum this far....🥰 #

GIANT BLOB MONSTERS! Blimey!!!! During this week's game of monster Tetris....it was lovely to just take stock for a moment of the Museum's mighty Plasmaton!!!! One of the least popular Doctor Who monsters in its pantheon.....nevertheless on broadcast I remember loving them!!!!! The gormless blob creature is another of those staples of pulp science-fiction that I can't help but adore!!!! And....I'd still take 1982's penny-pinching Timeflight any day over the recent mega-budget Rylan in space!!!!🤣 # #
