Again…

Important update on recycling collections
Dry recycling collections are currently suspended. This is due to a fire overnight at a waste transfer station in Bletchley used by our contractor. This is a large fire with six crews in attendance. The Bletchley facility was our contractors contingency site following a fire at their Elstow waste transfer site in July 2025.
We are working hard with our contractor to put alternative arrangements in place as quickly as possible and to minimise the impact on residents.
Residents are being asked to put their dry recycling bin out for collection as usual because, as soon as we are able, collections will recommence.
General waste, food waste and garden waste collections are continuing as normal. For glass, residents can continue to use bottle banks.
The household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) are operating as normal however, if possible, please store bulky waste materials at home rather than bring them to the HWRCs during this period of disruption.
We will keep our website updated at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/bin-pause and continue to share updates through our social media channels as soon as we know more.

From 1 April, garden waste collections in Central Bedfordshire are changing to a subscription-only service. To continue with your kerbside collections after that date, the annual charge is £55.

Garden waste can still be taken to your local HWRC (tip/dump) free of charge, or you can compost the waste at home.

Councils across the UK have been affected by high inflation and an increase in demand on children’s services and adult social care. We're looking closely at what we spend – how to run services more efficiently, and how we provide them. We're in a much better place than some, but local authorities everywhere are having to make some tough decisions. Introducing a subscription-only garden waste collection – as 70% of councils already do – is one of them.

For residents who don’t subscribe, the garden bin should remain with the property and not used for any other purposes. We want to give people an opportunity to consider taking up the subscription service first and intend to collect unwanted bins following a three-month review period.

Following the announcement of the Bank Holiday for the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, some council services - including waste collections - will be affected.

𝙒𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠

Your waste collections will take place a day later than normal, during the week of the 19th of September.

Those households whose waste is normally collected on Monday, will now be collected on Tuesday. Those on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday, and so forth for the rest of the week.

For those households where waste is collected on a Friday, a Saturday collection will take place.

Please place your waste out by 7am on the day of your revised collection. If your bin is not collected on its revised day, please report it through our website and we will rearrange collection

Collections will return to their normal days from Monday 26 September.
