We have a bit of a different view from the workshop today, putting a face to the business with Stuart suited up, masked up, and ready to head into the booth. As the owner of Sussex Bodyworks, Stuart is the man behind the meticulous standards, the long hours, and the commitment to ensuring every single vehicle leaves us looking absolutely flawless. Running a busy body shop means spinning a lot of plates, but getting into the kit and getting the spray gun in hand is still where the real passion is.

It might look like a serious bit of gear for a selfie, but this level of discipline is exactly what it takes to guarantee those sharp, factory-perfect finishes. Cutting corners on safety, cleanliness, or technique simply isn't an option when your name is on the door.

The booth is heated up, the panels are prepped, and it is time for Stuart to do what he does best.

We have a busy workshop here at Sussex Bodyworks, and while you usually see us sharing pristine paintwork, major restorations, and flawless accident repairs, it is easy to forget we look after the mechanical side of things too.

We don't just make your car look brand new, we can also make sure it runs perfectly and stays completely road legal. From regular vehicle servicing to sorting out your annual MOT, our team has the tools, the expertise, and the same attention to detail under the bonnet as we do in the spray booth.

Keeping your everyday car or your weekend pride and joy healthy is a huge part of what we do. Cutting corners on mechanical maintenance simply isn't an option if you want reliability and peace of mind.

The ramps are busy today, but we always have time to get your vehicle booked in, so give us a call or drop by the shop to get your next service or MOT sorted.

When it comes to classic metalwork, there are no shortcuts, just proper fabrication and hours of patient grinding.

We are deep into the metalwork stage on this red VW camper, focusing on the rear wheel arch and lower corner. This area is a notorious trap for moisture and road grime, which quickly turns into structural rot if left untreated. We have cut away the dead, rusted steel and prepped the surrounding panel back to perfectly clean metal, ready to weld in a fresh, solid repair section.

It takes a lot of time to get the curvature and alignment completely seamless, but it is the only way to guarantee a long lasting repair that looks factory fresh once the paint goes on.

Do you have a project car that needs some serious metalwork sorted before the summer season? Get in touch with the team to book an inspection.

We have this one in the yard at Sussex Bodyworks for a front end repair, starting with that shattered headlight unit and some scuffs to the bumper. Modern headlights like these are complex pieces of engineering, packed with tech, and unfortunately, they don't take too kindly to impacts. We will be sourcing a replacement unit, stripping down the front end, and making sure the bumper is repaired and painted back to its flawless factory standard.

Before we get the tools out and start dismantling it, we want to see who can identify the exact make and model just from this angle.

Drop your guesses in the comments below, let us see who gets it right first!

Progress is moving fast on this custom Land Rover build, and seeing it come together like this in the workshop is incredibly satisfying.

With the body panels prepped and the mint green paint looking sharp, the focus is fully on the mechanical powerhouse sitting up front. Getting everything lined up and mounted perfectly on the galvanised chassis takes a lot of patience, but it is the only way to build a classic that drives even better than it looks.

There is still a lot of work ahead before the front end goes back on, but pieces of the puzzle are falling into place nicely.

There’s nothing quite like that feeling of finishing up a classic camper restoration and pulling it out into the sunshine.

This beautiful two-tone blue and white VW Bay Window is looking absolutely incredible. Every detail, from the pristine paintwork to that matching blue mesh grille over the front spare wheel, has been treated to our high standards of finish. Getting these old buses to look this sharp requires a lot of meticulous preparation and skill in the booth, but the result is always worth it.

It's ready for new adventures and is a perfect example of what we love doing at Sussex Bodyworks, restoring automotive history.

If there is one thing we love more than laying down fresh paint, it is the satisfaction of the preparation stage.

We have this Porsche Cayman up on the scissor lift today, and as you can see, the masking process is well underway. This is a slow, meticulous part of the job that requires a steady hand, plenty of patience, and high-quality tape. Every vent, light, and edge has to be perfectly blanked off to make sure the paint only goes exactly where it is supposed to.

It might look like a lot of yellow tape for now, but this level of precision is what guarantees those sharp, factory-perfect lines when the covers finally come off. Cutting corners at this stage simply isn't an option at Sussex Bodyworks.

The prep is nearly done and we are almost ready for the booth.

If you have ever wondered why we don't just "paint over" small bubbles, this reel is for you.

We are working on this light blue panel today, and what looked like a minor blemish on the exterior was actually hiding a much bigger secret underneath. As soon as we started scraping away the old underseal and surface layers, the reality became clear: significant rust rot had already eaten a hole straight through the metal.

This is exactly why we take the "investigative" stage so seriously at Sussex Bodyworks. If you do not find the root of the problem and cut it out completely, any new paint you apply will be ruined within months. It is about transparency, honesty, and making sure the structure of the vehicle is safe and solid before we even think about the aesthetic finish.

The "quick fix" is never the right fix. We are stripping this back to bare metal to ensure a repair that actually lasts.

An external spare wheel carrier is a great way to save space inside a camper, but it puts a massive amount of stress on one single corner of the bodywork.

The customer spotted some rust bleeding down the rear panel, and a closer look reveals exactly why. Constant vibration and moisture trapped behind the mounting bracket have allowed the "rust bug" to start its work. It might look like just a few orange streaks for now, but if left alone, that weight would eventually tear through the weakened metal.

We will be removing the carrier, stripping back the affected area, and ensuring the panel is reinforced and sealed properly before the fresh paint goes on. It is all part of keeping these classics safe and solid for the long haul.

Is your spare wheel carrier causing more harm than good? It is always worth checking behind the bracket!

Every now and then, a colour comes through the workshop that just stops everyone in their tracks.

This VW Transporter in vibrant lime green is exactly that. It is a bold, high-energy choice that completely transforms the look of the T6, giving it a modern and custom feel that you just don't get from the standard factory palette. Combined with the gloss black grilles and lower splitter, the contrast is absolutely spot on.

A colour this bright is all about the depth and the shine. We have put in the work to ensure the finish is glass-smooth, allowing that green to really pop, whether it is under the workshop lights or out on the road. It is definitely not for the wallflowers, but if you want your van to stand out from the crowd, this is a masterclass in how to do it.

We are absolutely loving this result. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much are you vibing with this lime green? 👇
