A percolation test is a measure of how well draining the soil is. This involves digging 2-3 holes with a 30cmx30cmx30cm hole inside of it.
The smaller hole is then filled with water and left to drain overnight. We then return the following day and fill the holes up once again and time how long it takes to drop.
The results of this test will then dictate how big the drainage field for the septic tank or treatment plant must be. A test can fail if the water drains away too quickly or too slowly.
Drainage fields for septic tanks will be bigger than those for a treatment plant with the same percolation test results.

Our latest treatment plant installation has a lot going on!
Installation of a sewage pumping station on the lower level to pump the sewage up to the new treatment plant.
Treatment plant hole dug and lowered into the ground and finished with a concrete surround.
Space was tight for this job, so we opted to make almost the whole garden one big drainage field. Safe to say this is built to last!
