There are so many chimney sweeping organisations and associations around these days it’s mind boggling. I think I might set one up of my own. Chimney sweeps with 40 years experience or more. We would be a very rare breed indeed!

When I reflect on 40 years of business I have to admit that is quite an achievement.we live in a very different world these days , job insecurity flexible labour market there is not much security in anything these days.So to have had a growing developing business over 40 years is something I feel very proud of. The thing I’m most proud of though,is customer loyalty so many of you have stuck with me many for up to 40 yrs, some still remember my late father who started the business back in 1952! I’m very grateful to you all. Plus it’s always a joy to welcome new customers on board to! It’s quite a thing that I don’t have to advertise anymore but can rely solely on word of mouth and personal recommendation to keep my business going. Here’s to another cold winter ahead so we can keep the home fires burning!!

How times change back in the mid 1980s every second job was someone leaving solid fuel having a gas coal effect fire fitted this was due to the miners strike people losing confidence in solid fuel.Now every second job is a woodburning stove gas coal effect fires a distant inefficient memory. Keep the home fires burning!!

well i can't believe a new sweeping season has begun.I always love this time of year as we begin the run through to Christmas.All the new customers i'm going to meet,above all catching up with so many customers who have become good friend's over the years. There loyalty really is the back bone of my business. It's good to know that over 38yrs we have all aged so well together!!

The Queen celebrating her 90th Birthday today. For many years I used to sweep the chimneys at the Hambledon Vineyards for Lady Salisbury Jones (a lovely lady). My Dad had known her for many years. One morning I was there sweeping the kitchen Aga boiler and she made me a cup of tea with a slice of toast. She said to me "this is a strange day for me. I'm having breakfast with the chimney sweep and I shall be having lunch with the Queen!!".

Over the years I have removed many birds from chimneys, predominantly pigeons. I remember on one occasion eyeballing and having to remove a rather nasty Magpie!! (not easy) The most interesting though was 2 Barn Owls in the same chimney in a house in Droxford - such beautiful birds and both thankfully were OK. Tip for bird removal - if you have a bird trapped in a chimney, flash a torch to the back of the fireplace so the birds can see the light and over time they will move towards it.

Here is a strange thing, when my dad started the business in 1952 his very first job was 28 wigan
ent Bedhampton.He died on May 10th 1978 his last job that day should have been 30 Wigan cresent he spent 26 yrs crossing the drive!!

Wood burning tips, Never burn unseasoned wood. only ever burn good seasoned hard wood.(ash oak beech etc) Never let the woodburner burn under 300 degrees best burning between 300 450 degrees buy a magnetic thermostat!! but the most important thing of all, make sure i'm your chimney sweep!!

I heard the other day that over the last 10 years there has been up to 1 million woodburners installed in the U.K No wonder there are so many new chimney sweeps around these days!!
