🪵 First log fire of the season? Start small.
It’s tempting to pile in the logs when it’s chilly, but a carefully built fire needs room for air to circulate.
If your stove’s instructions recommend the top-down method:
🔥 Place a couple of small, dry logs on the fire bed.
🔥 Stack dry kindling above them, leaving gaps for airflow.
🔥 Add suitable firelighters amongst the kindling.
🔥 Set the air controls for lighting, then light the firelighters and close the door as directed.
Always follow your stove manufacturer’s instructions for lighting and adjusting the air controls.
Save this for your first chilly evening — and contact ICW Chimney Sweep if your chimney is due a sweep.
