They’ll build their nests anywhere and everywhere, in weird and wonderful places .

We won’t move a bumblebee nest or advise anyone who can

Moving will affect the structure of the nest and many, if not all the bees will die .

Another pest control company may offer to ‘re-locate’ a bumblebee nest for a fee, but we will won’t offer this service when we know it is not the best solution for the bees and the eco system.

Have you found a bumblebee nest recently? Here is a quick Q&A about what to do if you find one 🐝🏠

Q: I’ve found a bumblebee nest. What should I do?
A: You’re lucky! Bumblebee nests aren’t very common. Although some people can be worried, we generally recommend that nests are left alone.

Q: How long does a bumblebee nest last?
A: Not very long (just a few months). Often a nest is only spotted once it is well established and there is more visible bumblebee activity. The nest could be approaching its end, so it might finish sooner than you think.

Q: Do bumblebees sting?
A: If left alone, bumblebees are generally calm creatures that prefer to visit flowers and avoid people. Females will occasionally sting if they feel threatened. Male bumblebees don’t have a sting.

Q: The nest is in an awkward position. What can I do to avoid disturbing it?
A: Try using these temporary measures:
🪟 Cover window openings with netting. Bumblebees don’t mean to come indoors!
🗑️ Keep pets and children away from nest entrances with temporary fencing or barriers. An upturned wire basket (such as a hanging basket) might give the bumblebees the space they need to safely come and go.
🔇 Move play equipment or garden seating to another area of the garden. Avoid making too much noise or vibration (e.g. mowing the lawn) near the nest.

Q: Do bumblebee nests cause any structural damage?
A: No. Bumblebees don't dig holes and once vacated, the nest will dry up.

Q: What should you do if you accidentally disturb a nest?
A: Gently replace any material, like long grass, that was covering the nest. Alternatively, place something over the top of the nest to shelter it from the weather. Then leave the bumblebees to repair any damage.

Q: Can you move a bumblebee nest for me?
A: No. We can’t move bumblebee nests or recommend anyone who can. Moving a nest could damage the bumblebees and the structure they’re in. The easiest solution is to wait until the bumblebees have finished nesting.
