Wildlife presenter and comedian Bill Oddie has died at the age of 85, his agent has confirmed.

His agent paid tribute to Britain's best loved birder, describing Oddie as a multi talented figure across broadcasting, comedy, writing, songwriting, music and conservation, adding that fame was never what he valued most.

Born in Rochdale in 1941, Oddie found fame as one third of comedy trio The Goodies alongside Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden, with the show running from 1970 to 1982 and spawning several hit singles including "The Funky Gibbon". A keen birder since childhood, he later became one of Britain's most recognisable wildlife broadcasters, fronting BBC favourites Springwatch and Autumnwatch as well as Britain Goes Wild and Bill Oddie's How to Watch Wildlife, while also serving as a former RSPB council member and president of the League Against Cruel Sports.

He said Oddie spent his life encouraging people to respect and protect the environment, teaching the wonder of it while protesting, lobbying and campaigning on its behalf, inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds along the way.

Oddie's wife Laura and his daughters Bonnie, Kate and Rosie have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
