We were back to the boats again today.
Last week, we discovered a critical fault with one of the solid fuel stoves that we were there to service. Unfortunately, we just didn’t have the time to fix it then but made a special visit today to rectify the fault.
Basically, the flue collar was not connected to the stove. If it had been lit, carbon monoxide along with other flue gasses would have filled the boat. Not what you ever want and particularly in a confined space.
Collar reattached using stainless steel bolts, a nice gasket made up with fibreglass rope seal and the top of the stove repainted as a bonus! Also, an air intake was repaired by fabricating a part on site.
This one is now safe to use and it will be very snug in there tonight.
On another boat, a new rain cap was riveted onto the existing chimney. A simple job which will keep water out of the stove.
Not a bad mornings work really and Jane’s apprenticeship is coming along nicely!
