⨠WHEN CLEAN GLASS STILL LOOKS MARKED⦠āØ
Living in a hard-water area, our shower screens are constantly exposed to minerals from the water. Add in shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and other body-care products, and over time a stubborn build-up can develop on the glass.
As a cleaner, this can be incredibly frustrating!
You can clean, rinse, dry and buff that shower screen until it shines ā yet those cloudy water marks can still remain.
To a customer, it may look as though the glass hasnāt been cleaned properly, when actually there may be another reason.
My usual go-to method is washing-up liquid with a non-abrasive scourer, followed by a thorough rinse, dry and buff. But sometimes, no matter how much effort you put in, those marks simply wonāt disappear.
š So, as I always do, I researched whyā¦
You may have heard the term āglass cancer.ā
Over time, hard-water minerals can remain on shower glass and eventually begin to etch or damage the surface itself.
At that point, what youāre seeing may no longer simply be dirt or limescale sitting on the surface. The glass itself may have become marked, which means ordinary cleaning wonāt necessarily restore it to a completely clear finish.
⨠Sometimes clean glass can still be damaged glass. āØ
For me, being a professional cleaner isnāt simply about turning up and cleaning. Iām always researching, learning and improving my knowledge so I can keep my standards as high as I possibly can.
It also means recognising when repeatedly scrubbing one area isnāt going to improve the result ā allowing me to spend that valuable time concentrating on other areas of your home.
š” JOANNEāS TIPS ā HELP PROTECT YOUR SHOWER GLASS BETWEEN CLEANS
A little maintenance can make a BIG difference:
⢠šæ Squeegee your shower screen after every shower. It only takes a few seconds and removes much of the water before the minerals have chance to dry onto the glass.
⢠𧽠Donāt allow soap and body products to sit on the screen. Give the glass a quick rinse after showering to wash away residue.
⢠š§ Dry the glass where possible. A quick wipe with a clean, soft microfibre cloth helps prevent water droplets drying and leaving mineral deposits behind.
⢠𧼠Keep on top of build-up. Donāt wait until the glass looks heavily clouded before giving it some attention. Regular light cleaning is much easier than tackling months of accumulated deposits.
⢠ā ļø Avoid aggressive scrubbing or abrasive products. Trying harder isnāt always better and could risk scratching or damaging the glass.
The best protection is prevention.
Just 30 seconds after your shower to rinse, squeegee and dry can help keep your screen looking clearer for longer and reduce that stubborn hard-water build-up.
